Same problem here.

The built-in Windows messenger of WinXP connects OK.
Windows live messenger 8.0.0812.00 gets stuck.
Turning off firewall and antivirus does not help.

The problem started several days ago.

I am having trouble logging into Windows Live Messenger version 8.0. To
start off, when I begin typing in my e-mail address it takes a while for the
letters to appear. Then, once I hit the sign in botton it gives me this:
"Signing into Windows Live Messenger failed because the service is
temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. Error Code: 800401f3"
Please give me advice as to what I can do to get my Windows Live Messenger
working once again. Thanks a lot!! I really appreciate your help on this!!

P.S. I have tried writing the reg commands into the Command Prompt as well
as other things that have been suggested in forums, but with no luck. I even
uninstalled and installed Messenger, but this didn't help me out.

Thnx a lot Jonathan! It works again.
My post on LiveMessenger.net community forums has only been
read. I'll refer there to this community for the solution.

Again, thnx for letting me use yr .reg tool to fix my problem.

I have the same problem. Started playign up 2 days ago, then yesterday won't
sign-in at all. Have tried all the fixes suggested here so far. I can logon
to webmessenger.
My troubleshoot tells me the hosts file is the trouble, but clicking repair
does not help the problem. It just keeps saying the hosts file is the issue.

Any suggestions please?

Patty
