Hi JRosenfeld
Thanks for the info .
Going back to the original posting he said he had
hundreds of entries that had been added to his windows
hosts file without his knowledge.
It was said that Spybot or Spyware Blaster had put these
entries into the windows hosts file but I said that
wouldnt happen by using spybot or spyware blaster unless
you open the advanced menu on spybot and manually added
them yourself.
I made the mistake of thinking spybots hosts file was
still working without adding it to the windows host file
in the same way it blocks ActiveX components & by
connecting that to the immunize feature but i dont use
spybot much .
I was just trying to say it wouldnt effect the windows
host file unless you open the advanced features of spybot
and then add them.
But like John said the chances are they are to protect
him especially with him saying there is hundreds of
entries im not aware of any virus or worm that adds that
many sites so John's view would be correct if thats the
case. It was just with him saying he didnt know where
they came from or how to fix them i assumed it was
unlikely he had opened up the advanced area of spybot to
add them, but maybe its another security type program
thats added them.
I'm sure though whatever he wanted to know about hosts
files has probably been posted by yourself &
Linuxgirl,JohnF etc.. so hopefully its helped him,It
helped me to know the spybot host file isnt being used at
all unless you add it, id rather not myself but im sure
most would if they knew it was just sitting there not
being used
