I have win XP home and win 98 clients. ( And ofcourse on win 2003
standard edition, AD)
DID NOT install DFS client on win 98
(and I think on XP it is already there.)
But still all including win98 clients return directory with dir
\\domain.com\SYSVOL
Moreover I stopped DFS service on the server and still it returns
directory from all clients.

So I thinl DFS is not the issue for the behaviour you described.
I guess on the laptop you have Win XP Pro (and not Home),
correct?
On the server in AD U&C add the laptop in the Computers,
reboot the latop, and then try 'dir \\ ' commands

Sharad

I believe that the DFS client doesn't exist on XP Home.

I managed to get rid of the problem. My DC's are HP
servers with 2 NICs and the NICs are configured with
different IP's, when i disabled one of the NICs the
problem disappeared.

What about servers with just one nic? I am having this same problem and have gone through all of the suggestions above

Went over Article 314494. It says to make a change to the registry.....well I dont even have that DisableDFS in any of my XP workstaions

Still trying to solve this one!

I would like to just add.....I am running 8 servers. I have 30 XP workstations. I get this error on every workstation
I have read the Microsoft KB Article and I have not found the DisableDFS in any of the registries. My domain controller only has one nic. All Workstations point to its DNS and then its forward to my ISP through a proxy server

I have tested about everything and made sure I can find the sysvol! No matter what I do I still get this error

If anyone has the solution or a good place to find one that would be great!!

Thank

Scott Webster

I have this issue as well. However, it is on the server itself. It i
an AD DC (Win 2003)

I haven't seen any of the KB articles that apply to the server itself.
Any other ideas? Also, if someone does find a solution PLEASE e-mai
me.

Can we see an ipconfig /all of your server?
Can you also let us know what your AD domain name is?

This will give us a start diagnosing your server.
Thanks.
