went right to 5 that is however slow and kind
bloated...

winamp295_full_noaod.exe

Google for the filename and you'll find it in many places. The last and
best Winamp 2, without the AOL desktop.

There really isn't much difference between any of the Winamp 2 versions.

Dl'ing and installing the version from this page that is labeled version 2.5
ends up being v.7!
Go figure! !! :( Here, for this machine, WPM v 9 still gets the job done,
with all the
peripherals turned OFF! It only starts when I choose to use it! WhineAmp OTH
is a no-go!
I just downloaded the so-called version 2.5..which is NOT v.2.5 but version 7!
Uck!

I've already deleted (uninstalled) it. And it said, "some files could not be
deleted" ...
e.g., that means time to scrub the registry for remnants squirreled away in the
cracks and crevices.

Any special reason?

Any special reason for what? That I never found a reason to go any further
than v2.5e? Well, the one I use plays whatever which is what I want. It
doesn't have a "library" feature which I don't want because there are other
far better MP3 database managers.

Basically, any improvements to later 2.x versions were ones that I didn't
want. Additionally, many of those "improvements" fixed bugs introduced
after the one I use.

Salient points of all Winamp 2.x versions...

It just figures that you, of all people, would have trouble with something
as simple as Winamp. LMAO.
