Win2003 stub zone problem

Herb, any tools to verify why stub zone cannot be used ?

Of course it "Can be used" -- it cannot be used on the
same server as a Secondary or a Primary for the SAME
zone.

To do such would make ZERO sense.

You cannot have a Stub zone and a secondary zone of the same name on the
same DNS server. To take it a step further, you can't have two zones of the
same name of any type on the same server.
No tools needed, just common sense.

Thank you.

I told him that several messages back but he seems
to be ignoring it.

It's not really a 'stubborn' thing.

Think about it this way: If you had a Secondary
and other type of zone for the same zone, what would
be added by having that "additional zone"?

Both Secondary and Primary have ALL the records for
the zone. The purpose of the Stub is to resolve the zone
but without copying all of the records.

Other than that they do the same thing for resolution.
And once you copy the zone once, there is no value
(only confusion for the server) to have another zone
of the same name and copy the records again.

Or in the case of a stub, avoid copying something you
already copied.

Why do you WANT to use a stub at all?

Only people with large zones typically need them.
