Actually, REACT is a "mockup" of Windows NT, not Windows 98.

Not even half that figure even if you use the retail cost of Vista
Ultimate full and not upgrade.

I'm guessing TK's PC needs major surgery. Maybe his PC wont make it? Who
get's it's peripherals?
Baine said:My ASUS Z92T laptop scored, at average, 4.6 on Vista Ultimate when all
my drivers weren’t working. Now we must remember how old the
Vista Betas are and that most major manufacturers will be releasing
supported Hardware Drivers to the public on release. There is also the
fact that there is no way to stop Piracy, even if Microsoft thinks they
can. Windows XP Professional / Home will HAVE to still be supported by
Microsoft as some major corporations still use the older Operating
Systems because migrating would raise the point of having to re-write
all security and Operating System modifications.
What’s the point of transferring to Vista when it’s obvious
that Hackers, Devs and Scripters can easily create those nasties that
Windows XP gets? Longhorn / Vista still uses the i386 architecture and
still uses a Registry for all applications. Some people are dumb enough
to run anything they download without checking it (I don’t’
really care as I own two Volume License copies of XP Pro). It’s
all up to choice, as Microsoft is getting close to breaching Privacy
with their automatic hardware logs being sent out and who knows what
else it’s sending out.
Honestly, I got Vista working fine on my old computer and it sped up
all my Games, applications and functionality. Where as my laptop, with
it’s newer hardware, couldn’t install any of the hardware
(x64 Vista Beta 2 ) and slowed down slightly compared to my old
comp.
Laptop Specs Scored 4.6 (Average):
-AMD Turion64 X2 Dual Core TL-52 – 4.7
- 1GB DDR2 (Soon to be 2gb) – 4.4
-NVidia® GeForce Go 7600 256MB Memory - 1.0
-100GB 5400rpm HDD – 4.5
Comp Specs Scored 3.0 (Average):
-AMD Sempron 2800+
-1gb DDR (400MHz Clock)
I’m stuck between asking for a 64-bit Vista Business Upgrade or a
32-bit as the company giving the Express Upgrades to Vista Capable
laptops are only giving one or the other. That doesn’t mean
I’m going to upgrade, I just want a copy of Vista in hand. The
corporation I work for just recieved a Copy of Vista Business Upgrade
yesterday, and I'm really tempted to test it out.
If you feel with all your soul, not to upgrade to Vista, then
don’t.
(This post isn't flame bait!)
Justin said:So your "average" does even include you? After looking at your specs,
trust me, you ARE average (aside from your sound card).
Jupiter Jones said:I never said no one will need to spend $1000 if they decide the want Vista.
But you said "fact" and I asked for your source.
I also know many examples where little to no cost is necessary to upgrade
to Vista.
Are you really saying you believe many may need to spend $1000 in order to
run Vista?
If so, I can agree with that, but many will not as my computer is an
example.
But if you think it is a fact the average user needs to spend $1000 to run
Vista, I want a source for that fact.
Neither you nor me know enough people to be statistically relevant to
represent the population as a whole.
It really seems like we may agree.
