Could you post that part, please?

third party's servers to check for an install updates to NavHelper such
as bug fixes, new features, registry settings, and other modifications.
Any such updates will only be to maintain and

and installation of all of the foregoing such updates and agree that all of
the foregoing shall be governed by the terms of this License Agreement.
The NavExcel Search Toolbar software will automatically communicate with
NavExcel or a third party's servers to check for an install updates to the
NavExcel Search Toolbar such as bug fixes, new features, registry settings,
and other modifications only if you opt-in to automatically received such
updates.
Otherwise, you will be prompted for every such update, and you may choose
when so prompted to accept or decline the update. When you consent to the
receipt and installation of such updates, you agree that all such updates
to the NavExcel Search Toolbar shall be governed by the terms of this License
Agreement.

The last beta 1.45 seems to install navhelper and navexcel BHO...no more a
freeware...

That gets it shown the door from pricelessware!

Getting a rough ride on it's own forum too!

There have been posts questioning the suitability of Free Download
Manager for the PL. Free Download Manager will be selected for PL2005
*if* the issues are addressed and resolved to everyone's satisfaction.

If the issues are not resolved in the next day or two Free Download
Manager will not be a PL2005 selection.

ncSkeet felt moved to observe thus (extract)... in regard to comments on FDM
on 20/11/2004.

"Sadly, the glee/resentment expressed in
some of the attempts to prevent this program from being added suggests
personal agendas that have nothing to do with the nomination process. I
would be willing to bet that in at least a case or two just a little
history sleuthing would prove this."

I can't offer much input on that, I've never been much on conspiracy
theories, however...
I would have thought that "satisfied users" should be the deciding
criterion.

As ncSkeet observed, with anti-malware and a firewall in place, I have seen
nothing dodgy myself.
In the end, those that want to use it will do so, if it is excluded from
some list or other, so be it.

I'm glad this useful little app had been drawn to the attention of other so
they can decide for themselves.

The issues I talked about are no reason to question the suitability.
Free Download Manager is the best download program I have seen.

I just gave advice on using a downloader program in general, and about
settings which often are too high by default, in most downloader
programs.

If FDM comes with NavExcel bundled in, I'm against it being on the PL.

During the install the following occurs. One is presented with an
above board request to also install NavHelper.

The following text is at the TOP of what one see's during installation
(over the NavHelper EULA box):

"NavHelper and Search Toolbar software installation
NavHelper installation is NOT required."

I have no problem either way. An excellent program, a very upfront
mention of an additional unnecessary program (as to FDM functionality)
.. . .

A program which should continue to be eligible to be recommended here.
But I leave it for others to decide if the above disqualifies it for
PL.

Thanks to you and Dewey for posting this info -- I won't bother running
the installer myself now. Even with the option not to install it, I'm
against listing anything with NavExcel bundled. I think I'd be against
it even if there were a screen warning that it's a browser hijacker and
adware.

I just went to the web site. If, as the site leads me to believe, it is
I/E-specific, I don't see how it could possibly be considered for
anything; it is, by definition, "broken", isn't it?

Has my vote, just remember to deselect the spyware installation when
prompted by the installer. I have been trying it for a couple of weeks
on and off and so far its better than FreshDownload and StarDownloader
both of which I used for over a year.

I'm not sure if this is what you're talking about but in the FDL "Options/DL
Options/Monitoring" you're given options to use IE, Opera, Netscape or
Mozilla Firefox.

FDL should be FDM, sorry.

It can be a very good program, worthy of discussion and qualified
recommendations here, but if it comes bundled with spyware there is no
way it can be called pricelessware.
