Why is Vista 30 times slower than XP in File Transfering?

This is a known problem that was fixed with SP1 - well, fixed-ish, it's
still slow but oddities like this have always bugged Micro$oft products,
their newer o/s or software is not necessarily an improvement - it's just
'different' - call it a 'challenge' or a 'computer-geek puzzle'. Either way
no M$ product is ever designed for productivity, speed, efficiency or
reliability, it simply evolves!

Not really fixed with SP1.

As for "evolution": Windows would actually be a better product if it
evolved more and was re-written less.

Vista is NOT 30 Times slower at file transfer.

Yes, ti is a bit slower, but there are several reasons for this, some
have been improved some haven't.

The biggest of them can be blamed on people wanting more accurate Time
estimations for the file transfers. While it has never been perfect, and
never will be on any system, (and yes, I am sure Linazi's and Macfoons
will disagree and argue till death (I don't care)), Those transfer times
are estimates only. MS tried to make them more accurate, this involves
scanning the file sizes, network speed and running calculations to give
a rough estimated average time frame. The more file, the longer the
calculations.

This was really bad in the initial vista release, was fixed quite a bit
in SP1.
Persoannly, I don't notice delays much anymore. And I do work on both
Vista and XP Pro systems daily.

So no, the OP is incorrect in assuming that Vista as a Whole transfers
files 30 Times Slower than XP.

And all you Linazi's and Macfoon's can go back to the rocks you crawled
out from under.

Earlier today I transfered c 150 files, 1.5gb from Vista to a usb2
drive and it took an hour
When I then transfered those same files from the usb stick to xp it
took 2 mins
Why is Vista so incredibly slow at file transfers?

using 2gb mem and 2 ghz on vista (SP1) business laptop
and 1 gb mem 1 ghz on xp

Copying images from my SD card Canon camera with USB2
to my Vista 64 Premium is fast similar
to your XP ( did not measure it ).

Is possible that on your vista machine
USP port is in 1.1 mode, instead of 2 ?

RAM and CPU doesn't have anything to do. It's just a matter of how
efficient USB drivers are, how efficient disk caching for removable
disks is, and how fast your USB device is. Obviously, your USB device is
not the problem here.

How would I eliminate that?
