I see all the folders in IIS now. The website I thought was being browsed
was actually outside of the wwwroot. ASP.NET browses in the wwwroot. I
added the folder I wanted ("images") and was able to then browse it.

Is there some other tool that can help with this problem?

I don't quite understand the problem. You can set the IIS webroot in
Computer Management -> etc., and you create a new website by telling VS
a url (http://localhost/something). Anything you create inside your
project (folders/images etc.) will appear under
http://localhost/something in IIS. If you want your website to run in
the root, try telling VS to use http://localhost/

Run an ASP.NET website and computer freezes. That's the problem.

Sorry, I thought that last line was stil refering to your folders...
Does it happen with anything else (like .asp)? If not, maybe
reisntalling the .NET framework or re-running aspnet_iisreg (or whatever
it's called) might help?

The IIS folder problem is solved. My site was below the wwwroot. I put the
wanted folder in the wwwroot and it shows up now in IIS. .NET reconfigured
IIS and I wasn't aware. So everything is good on IIS now.

I've reran the aspnet_iisreg, reinstall IIS and VS.NET. I could reinstall
..NET Framework but I double it will help. May wait to see if some one post
some less time consuming.

Thanks,
Brett

So this problem is completely solved now?

what do your application logs say? any strange messages in there? one good
way is to purge all the logs, run the application let it freeze then check
the logs

If you are referring to event viewer, nothing is there about the crash. It
may not have time to write before everything more or less locks up.

Some would consider that normal ;o)

Try turning off your anti-virus software. I found that NOD32 and I read
about someone having a problem with the some versions of McAfee.

I'm WinXP Pro. When I reference http://127.0.0.1/mysite/webform1.aspx
(newly created page in VS.NET), IE stalls then everything freezes. I can
click the title bar of applications but that is all. If I move beyond the
title bar, I get the hour glass. Nothing responsds except the mouse. I
have to turn the machine off at this point.

Running .NET 1.1. I can't find any one that knows why this happens. Any
suggestions?

Are you running ZoneAlarm? I have found that debug mode in IIS and
ZoneAlarm (Security Suite) cause the same behaviour.

Suggestion? Shut down ZoneAlarm, VS and IIS should work ok.

I hope this is of some help to you.

This seems to have done it. I turned of Zone Alarm and AVG free Personal
edition. It ran fine. I turned ZA back on. Still fine. Never restarted
AVG because I'm afraid it will crash.

Does this mean I can't use AVG at all?

If AVG has to go, I don't want Norton. Is there some other very good free
AV that won't give me these kinds of problems?

Thanks,
Brett

I missed these links, sorry...

To bad they don't have anything AVG specific.

I run ZA on my work and home machines. ASP.NET apps execute fine.

Thanks,
Brett

Just for fun, build and run your project in Release mode, or press Crtl-F5
to see if it locks up the same.

If it locks up there is something else to blame, if it doesn't then it is
related to the articles I offered.

Please let me know in any case, as I am interested in your results.

Thanks

I tried it after a fresh reboot in debug with AVG off. It froze. Not sure
how it worked before with AVG off. Possibly the reboot created very
different conditions and demonstrated AVG is not a factor.

After rebooting because of the above crash, I also tried it in Relase mode
with AVG off. Crashed again. ZA was on in both cases. Guess I'll need to
look at those articles you posted on ZA.

Thanks,
Brett

I'd suggest installing RedHat and using the latest version of PHP, but then
you run into the major disadvantage of loosing Visual Studio and the other MS
productivity applications.

Have you covered the basic / obvious stuff?

a) Try a different browser.
b) Remove the .Net framework you've got installed, reboot, then install the
latest version.
c) Get all updates from WindowsUpdate.com.
d) Tested on another machine.

If it's a client issue.. in my experience it's probably quicker to flatten
your box and reinstall everything. It's well worth doing that, installing
basic apps / patches then making a Ghost of the drive..

I note that it's IE causing the problem - in my experience errors like this
are almost always attributable to the spyware/virii. SP2 will help with
this, as will using a non-standard browser.

Which image isn't working? I can see two in your HTML code, and one of them
is commented out........

I'm pretty sure that the OP solved his problem by disabling a firewall app
on his system.

Besides, PHP is really terrible for scalability. ASP.Net whips the living
daylights out of PHP.
(My unbiased opinion, of course :-)

I haven't quite solved it. I ran the ASP.NET app again last night with ZA
and AVG turned off. No issues. I'll have to keep testing. One of those
two programs are the issue. I've ran the app with one AVG disabled and
vice versa. It ran fine. Reboot and try that again, everything freezes.
Seems to be safest when both are off.

Sorry, I'm not going to PHP. No need to switch programming languages over
something like this. There is a solution.

Thanks,
Brett
