Which Sound card if not Audigy?

I'm using an AIW 8500 (and on a different computer, 8500DV) with Win98SE
and if you use the latest drivers for BOTH the AIW and the Audigy,
everything is fine under both XP and 98SE. Use the Windows ME drivers
for 98SE if there are no 98 drivers listed. Note that this works with
98SE (which supports WDM model drivers), it may not work with 98 1st
Edition (which does not support WDM drivers).

Yea, but how is the performance of those newer WDM drivers under
Win98SE? I tried the original WDM drivers off the installation cd and
they performed really bad. Sound stutters, slow loading of wave files
in games etc.

There was a problem with the AIW volume controls and the Audigy (one)
when the Audigy first came out, and it took a long time to fix it
(almost a year), but it was fixed in late summer of 2002. If you use
drivers from fall of 2002 or later for BOTH the All-in-Wonder card and
the Audigy, the volume control works fine.

Also, if you don't really, really need the features of the Audigy 2, you
can buy an Audigy (one) Platinum directly from Creative on E-Bay for
$79.95 (note, that's "Buy It Now", you don't have to screw with an
"auction"). This is a FACTORY refurb, full "platinum" package (card,
live drive with firewire and IR, remote control, all accessories), in
the factory retail package box. In my mind, this has to be one of the
best deals going.

And if you don't need the "Platinum" features you can buy an OEM
Audigy2 for less than that.

Sure, I understand that. Doesn't anyone get the benifit any more? Maybe
some people should install a Sencitivity Scanner Software to avoid getting
their feeling hurt.

Proto.

I say screw 'em if they can't take a joke.
