I have reads the posts of the Audigy problems with the ATI TV volume so now
which one do I try? Turtle Beach?

Thanks for any tips

Proto.

There is no problem that i can see.. i have an Audigy 2 Plat....everything works great.AIW 9700 and a 7500. although so does my
Cmedia 6.1 and the old yamaha ISA card...it would depend on what your looking for...

I think the Audigy problems will go away if you load the latest drivers
from Creative. But Creative only has updated drivers for WinXP. Since
I'm running Win98, I replaced my Audigy 2 with a SB Live 5.1. This
works great with my AIW 9700 Pro. I'm still using Cat 3.4.

No problems that you mention while using my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum :-)

However, it depends on your full system specs. The Audigy didn't have the
problem, but my original Sound Blaster Live Platinum package and driver suite
had problems with my former Dual CPU setup. Now I have a P4 3GHz (800MHz FSB)
with Hyper-Threading, and all works great.

But I've heard that the Turtle Beach sound cards are excellent as well.

Here are some reviews that you may find interesting:

Turtle Beach - Santa Cruz

They say the Santa Cruz gets the vote over Creative in the "mid-range" category.
They say the Santa Cruz isn't a fancy card (not having all the bells and
whistles as it's rival, the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live cards has), but
it's a stable performer.

Just take a look at the bottom of those pages for reviews on other sound cards
as well.

I hope this helps...

All the best

The problem I am referring to is the sound troubles discussed in another
thread about the TV volume using the Audigy. The lack of volume control? I
have latests Creative XP drivers and Cat 3.7/MMC 8.5. I have tried
uninstalling and reinstalling but I do not intend on using my mic jack
because everything else works with all other software. I also have the card
plugged into a audio video receiver that gives me fine 5.1 power. another
reason to dump the card if it doesn't work.

I said this is NOT true...I have the setup on TWO machines...in the beginning of the TV intialzation you will be asked if you
installed the cable then will ask for the source...choose 'what you here' then a second window will pop up and choose 'line in'
all will be well.

I'm not promoting the SBA2P But there is no problem with the card...its user error not the card....

I'm using an AIW 8500 (and on a different computer, 8500DV) with Win98SE
and if you use the latest drivers for BOTH the AIW and the Audigy,
everything is fine under both XP and 98SE. Use the Windows ME drivers
for 98SE if there are no 98 drivers listed. Note that this works with
98SE (which supports WDM model drivers), it may not work with 98 1st
Edition (which does not support WDM drivers).

There was a problem with the AIW volume controls and the Audigy (one)
when the Audigy first came out, and it took a long time to fix it
(almost a year), but it was fixed in late summer of 2002. If you use
drivers from fall of 2002 or later for BOTH the All-in-Wonder card and
the Audigy, the volume control works fine.

Also, if you don't really, really need the features of the Audigy 2, you
can buy an Audigy (one) Platinum directly from Creative on E-Bay for
$79.95 (note, that's "Buy It Now", you don't have to screw with an
"auction"). This is a FACTORY refurb, full "platinum" package (card,
live drive with firewire and IR, remote control, all accessories), in
the factory retail package box. In my mind, this has to be one of the
best deals going.
Exactly what I paid at Staples. No refurb-no mail order-No waiting

I've seen the Audigy for $79.95, but the lowest I've seen the Audigy
Platinum for is $129.95, and that only very recently.

The actual sound card is the same, but the Audigy Platinum includes the
"Live Drive", the front control panel that goes into a 5.25" disk drive
bay, and the infra-red remote control. These actually cost more than
the sound card itself, the Audigy sound card sells for far less than the
Audigy Platinum, which is normally $200.

I find it odd that you seemed to challenge my price post on the Audigy
Platinum by stating that you got a better buy, and then that you ask in
the next post "What is the difference". The difference is that they are
two totally different items.

I am using the M-Audio Revolution 7.1 sound card, along with my ATI
All-in-Wonder Radeon 9700 Pro AGP video adapter. I send my sound output
through the Revolution 7.1's coaxial digital output to my home receiver, and
I am listening to great sound.

Here's a nice review:

NICE! What home receiver do you have and how many speakers do you use. I
have seen the 7.1 cards and speaker systems for computers but not Stereo
systems designed without computers in mind. As in an older rather costly two
speaker sysem devirering well over 500W per chanel I may not be using much
anymore. I also have a newer receiver with 5.1 but can't think of adding yet
more chanels and speakers.

I didn't mean to challenge anything you posted. I was only stating that I
bought the same card at Staples for the same price adding that it was
available in a store other than internet. Sorry if I came on offensive and
rude. But no matter what I post and how helpful I try to be I will never
resort to the wimpy smiley faces.

Tone of voice is hard to convey with text alone. Emoticons are some way of
representing that, whether you perceive them as "wimpy" or not is up to you.

Sure, I understand that. Doesn't anyone get the benifit any more? Maybe
some people should install a Sencitivity Scanner Software to avoid getting
their feeling hurt.

Yea, but that card doesn't do Directsound3D hardware acceleration,
which translates to lower performance in games that use that API. I
know it's a good card otherwise though. Did they give you guys a DVD-A
player yet?

Those drivers are for Win98SE too if you installed the WDM drivers and
not the VXD ones. I haven't tested out the latest WDM drivers on 98SE
but the ones that came on the cd performed quite poorly in games so if
these new ones don't reslove that issue then you are correct that
Creative don't support the Audigy2 under Win98SE because the only
realistically usable drivers are the VXD drivers that come on the
installation cd.
