That's what I use. As to the paste-and-open in Irfanview, I get that done
from a shortcut on my startmenu. My bat file uses a couple of the ops
described in Irfanview's commandline helpfile, "i_options.txt."
: \path\i_view32.exe /one /clippaste /convert=F:\pngapps\tout\clip.png /bpp=8
: \path\i_view32.exe F:\pngapps\tout\clip.png
Although this batch initally saves the shot to disk, it overwrites the
previous one. I don't have sequential autonaming set up, since it's my
needs to desciptively name the screenshot and put it somewhere specific
each time.
Irfanview autosaves where and how you wish. It offers a hotkey. I don't know
what client window snapping is? My shortcut with Irfanview serves me just
right. Especially I like not having to keep something loaded. Nor remember
a hotkey (I have poor memory and need to see menu thing to know about them).
There is only one thing that would help. Occasionally alt-prntscreen serves
to get what I want. Most of the time, on the other hand, things are two-
step. First I hit printscreen. Then I copy the part I want from Irfanview;
and hit my Irfanview batch shortcut again, to have the area I want.
Sometimes this is inevitable, different circumsances like wanting to get
variable areas with a couple of windows into the shot, etc.
Yet often the reason I have to do two-step is because of wanting the client
window screen together with a menu that is dropped down. That's impossible
when you hit alt-printscreen on the keyboard. So for that, I have to hit
printscreen, then crop, and paste as a new image. It's been on the back of
my todo list for a while, to see if I should set up something to make this
situation single step.
I'd have to read to be sure that I can't find options in Irfanview's
commandline params to set that up. Or, perhaps, I should get around to
seeing if MWSnap or similar can serve my basic needs in that. That is,
the automaticcapture and paste of client window + a dropped-down menu.

MWSnap is one small EXE file, and has many options that ALT+Print Scrn does
not. It auto-saves where and how you wish (BMP, JPG, PNG, GIF, Etc.) It has
snap delay, it has desktop, area, and client window snapping, and hotkeys
for capturing and several other functions.
