Hi all,

my names Kenny, lm pretty new to all this stuff so bear with me!!

My motherboard looks like its gone to the wall so l would like to replace it with a newer item, my pc's roughly 4 years old and l know how technology moves on!

Anyway i have a Packard Bell imedia, the motherboard is a 'LUNA', whats my options on a newer better motherboard, l dont want to spend hundreds to get a decent one, l dont play games on my pc, just some photo editing and stuff like that, lot of spreadsheets and work docs can be open at once, but l dont really need an all singing all dancing board, any suggestions, what about compatability??? are there any issues there???

Kenny

You won't be able to to anything with your PC, except replace the whole thing. Sorry.

That MB is 40years old and I'm afraid looking for anything would be a little futile. :(

oh, and welcome to the forums. :)

As mucks has said>
Well it is obsolete I cant seem to find a replacement Socket 370 Though no doubt they are around, looking at the spec of the MOBO I would not bother to upgrade, it would be better to BYO from advice on this forum, put what you require the PC for and go from there:thumb:

itsme,
Hi thanks for the welcome

do you think that its compatable with any of today's MOBO's, im getting the hang of this now!!!

muckshifter,

Thanks for advice, can l keep the case and peripherals l have and just build on that???

l'l take you up on that offer, coz l really dont have much of a clue about pc,s.

price is'nt an issue, but l would'nt want to spend a fortune, l'l only be using it for internet, excel spreedsheets, word docs etc, some photo editing etc, l dont do any gaming on it, leave that for the xbox!!!

what do you need to know from me?

itsme,

l guess for a ball park, lets say £500

No problem give me a while and I will get back to you
Do you need a monitor or is yours ok.;)

l just bought a new 300w PSU, for the pc coz l thought that was the problem, so hopefully l can utalise this and the case is a standard ATX, can l keep this also?
l have a CD ROM, DVD RW, and floppy, l assume these can still be used.

wow, very impressive, itsme,
l'l take a closer look at the idividual items after my tea, is there any milage in keeping the case l have, and also the DVD RW and DVD ROM, they are both pretty new items l had to buy due to original componant failure??

Ok here we go> first off use the new case it has a 350W power supply fitted;) and for the sake of £16.00> forget your old case, the DVD RW > DVD ROM and floppy you have will do nicely, you will find in the items listed Case fans X2 keep the PC nice and cool.
Anything you want to know just ask:thumb:

itsme,

a couple of questions for you,

would the motherboard fit directly into my original case, lm assuming it would, what about the power/LED/speaker connections onto the motherboard, would l need to get new connectors on them to suit the new board?
