Here in Ontario Canada we are paying 87 Canadian cents per Liter !
That's $3.48 Candian per gallon.

I think at today's exchange rate, 85 pence equals about $1.67.

http://finance.yahoo.com/currency/convert?amt=.85&from=GBP&to=USD&submit=Convert

Also, it appears one gallon equals about 3.79 liters:

http://www.convertit.com/Go/ConvertIt/Measurement/Converter.ASP

I multiply $1.67 (the cost of one liter of British fuel converted to
U.S. currency) times 3.79 (the number of liters in a gallon) and I find
the cost to a holder of US currency who converts his dollars to pounds
to purchase a gallon of fuel in Britain would be about $6.32 per gallon.

Right?

CompUSA, Best Buy, Circuit City, and Staples. They will all be about the
same for pricing and are nationwide electronics and software stores. Others
will make additional suggestions. I prefer CompUSA.

The latter three chains are typically easier to find in any given US city
than CompUSA. For example, here in the Indianapolis metro area, there are:

- 8 Best Buy stores
- 4 Circuit City stores
- 8 Staples stores
- and only ONE CompUSA store. (In fact, the one CompUSA store in Indy is
the only store in the *entire state* of Indiana.)

Um, Ken... with all due respect, your math seems to be off.

1p = 1/100 Great Britain pound (GBP), so 85p/liter = .85 GBP/liter

1 gallon = 3.785 liters, therefore, .85 (GBP/liter) * 3.785
(liters/gallon) = 3.21725 GBP/gallon

Using the currency converter at xe.com, 3.21725 British pounds is
equal to US$6.29587.

So if my math is correct, as is Brian's mention of petrol costing
85p/liter in Britain, gasoline there is about the equivalent of
US$6.30/gallon, nearly THREE TIMES as expensive as it is here in the
States.

You're right. My apologies. It seems that when converting pence to cents I
divided instead of multiplying.

You never answered my question.
Since you missed it before:
Or are you saying if you do not declare and the merchandise with receipts
are discovered there will be no problems?

Follow your own advice "Please try to read for content and logic."

Alias,

As you have experienced, Jupiter Jones Posts frequently contain insults and
hostile retorts.

Alias,

Just another of Jupiter Jones' insulting Post filled with dogmatic
self-serving nonsense rhetoric, apparentlyJupiter just enjoys insulting folks
for asking innocent questions for assistance.

I don't know if there would be any problems but I doubt it being as the
retail tax as already been paid and the article being brought in isn't
being imported for resale.

I do know that the US postal system didn't ask when a friend of mine
sent me a copy of XP Pro and he put "computer software" on the outside
of the envelop. Neither the USA nor Spain burped.

I also know, due to the wimpy dollar, that a lot of Europeans went to do
their xmas shopping in the US and I doubt that they paid any import tax
upon returning.

I already said that the retails tax was paid. I didn't know I had to
spell it out to you like this.

It was you that said "Maybe, if you're stupid enough to declare it."
You are the one suggesting information be withheld form appropriate
authorities.
Then you say "I don't know if there would be any problems..."
Then why suggest something that may bring others problems?
Avoiding problems with customs and other similar agencies may be "stupid" to
you, but it is simply wise for others.

"frequently contain insults"
Really?
Where?
You are confusing a different point of view with an insult.
But this is getting typical for you to twist what you see to suit your own
agenda.

In response to this question if you buy a copy of Vista in the US will it
work ok in the UK? Dont want to buy a copy in US and then find it wont
install and work correctly with my current version of XP?

seems that in a world where we can buy things where ever we want having a
higher price in uk seems silly if we can just import it

Top posting makes for difficult replies.

The reason for the higher pricing for UK versions
is the rewrites to make the word spelling comply with
UK needs. :-)

Best price is from a mail order such as tigerdirect.com, newegg.com,
buy.com, or even Amazon.
Do you have any friend or relative in the US who can buy and ship to
you?

Actually I heard all DVD are extactly the same copy, all you need is
the keys.
