My only question here (and I'm going to sound terribly naiive) is: since I
have no idea what a 'FreeXXX' site is, am I likely to stumble on one by
chance, perhaps through an accidental Googling mistake?

Obviously I've lived a very sheltered life!

Hi Alan

Well a FreeXXX site is a free prOn site......not a paid service

Users a tricked to follow a "for free" banner...
Instead of watching a prOn movie they installs a Zlob
trojan...;)

You also have "Free Warez", "Free Crackz", "Free Serialz"
and so on.... Social Engineering it´s called.

The major problem is multi giant companys which doesn´t lower
prices..... Internet is a giant market.... "hungry share
holders"...
Profit, profit, profit. Like all companys belonging to
RIAA and MPAA.

Plun,
At least our young generation are maybe so smart so they
understands this !?

I doubt this is true. The younger generation is caught up in the mind set
of the "free"dom of the net.

This includes free downloads of music and programs as well as porn. Infact,
if I recall the days of my youth correctly, it is among the young that the
hormones flow most freely. Also, it is believed by some scientists that
there is a difference in the way the younger brain works from the mature.
They "believe" they are "invulnerable", that nothing can hurt them.

I doubt some members of this group would make the distinction between "free"
porn sites and "paid" sites. But you are correct. It is the "get something
for nothing" mind set that is most dangerous. Sites that you pay money to
have a vested interest in not hurting you. This goes for music downloads,
ringtones, programs, porn, etc.

If a site is offering you something for nothing you have to ask yourself,
how are they making money? Often it is thru the downloading of Adware that
they make their profit.

Good Point Alan,

There is a plugin/extention for both IE and Firefox from McAfee called
SiteAdvisor. It can be set to show you the "saftey" status of the returns
from Yahoo! and I believe Googoo as well. This has nothing to do with porn
by the way, it has to with saftey. For example a porn site (free or
otherwise) might get a "green" [safe] rating because no harmful
action/effects were found, whereas a free screen saver site might a red
rating because its downloads are found to contain adware.
The theory is that if the return is marked in "red" you should use caution.
The problem is that a site can get a red rating for many reasons, (e.g.
sending to much "spammy" e-mail if you sign up at the site). Also it can
only warn about sites they have tested.

Hi again Tim

The young generation discuss this openly, they for example
uses Messenger and
openly tells each other about stupid things they have done.

For other generations this is a "tabu" and behind a lot of
double moral.

Zlobs are making money out of users with less knowlegde.

Zlob mostly drags in junk from Amaena.com.
http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/amaena.com?ref=safe&aff_id=0

And the newest Sysprotect......

A lot of users also pays for this junk.

I wish we could more openly discuss todays situation.

We also have a situation when some experts thanks the prOn
industry
for driving Internets development.....I don´t like moral
aspects on this
but my personal opinion is that this is a disgrace for all
human beings.

It´s also clear that the young generation takes another way
about
file sharing etc and we have a few multi mega company's
which must realize
that this is a new situation. RIAA and MPAA are pathetic.

I'm lost here: I don't see a connection between malware distribution by the
sites you mention, and the issue of pricing by, say, Microsoft. Do you feel
that they need to give Vista away in order to keep everyone more secure?

Hi Bill,

I thought about $50 for a update from XP Home to Vista Home?

Hi Bill

The key word is "For Free" and who's behind this.......?!
The other key is "Nothing is for free".

This is not about giving away anything, this is about
a situation with a small number of multi giants which
controls the whole market with really old fashioned methods.

Those giants also tries to catch users within a OS, a
specific player etc.

Every giant also has localized "mini megas" which "eats" our
money.

To brake this situation it would be really nice if those giants
took the first largest step and modernized their way to sell
products.
Regulators also forced them to use neutral formats to
benefit competition.

I don´t believe that the Bush administration will success
trying to
close down trackers and for example Russian music stores
(WTO trade agreement).

I also don´t believe that for example Britney Spears is
worth one billion for a record.....

NHL ice hockey cleaned out a lot of "old fashion ways"
during their conflict for 2 years ago.
They lowered costs to benefit spectators which loves to
watch ice hockey.
