Where is Windows Mail?

Did you try System File Checker?

Run the command prompt as Administrator and then type

SFC /Scannow

and see what it does.

Hi,

Yes I can. Thanks. I never tried that before. The thing is I think this is
the ONLY way to run it, as I cannot find anything when I search the word
'MAIL' in the system. Can I somehow create a short cut for it while it's
running?

Hi,

My user account profile is Administrator but I still cannot run the command
'SFC /Scannow', all I get is what looks like a DOS window that appears for a
split second and that's all. I thought I can start the Run command with Admin
privileges but I'm not sure how to do that as when I right click on the Run
icon in Start menu I get nothing.

Sorry Steve, I misread your post. I did run the command prompt with Admin and
ran the SFC /Scannow command and it found no violations in any files.
Incidentally, it never asked me to insert the Vista DVD; as opposed to
previous SFC/ Scannow commands in XP it almost always asked for the XP CD.

Rebooted and still cannot find Winmail or Windows Mail anywhere.
Interestingly, in the run command typing winmail.exe launches Mail fine!
Also, a search for 'winmail.exe' finds it in c:\program files\Windows Mail
folder (under properties of winmail.exe) but going to that folder it's not
there (and I do have the 'show hidden files and folders' checked). I was also
able to right click on winmail.exe in the start menu search results pane and
pin it to the start menu, so I now have a shortcut for Mail that works from
the start menu, but the winmail.exe is just no where to be seen. Strange.

Maybe you also have to show protected and OS files in addition to showing
hidden files under Folder Options. See if that lets you see them. I
couldn't imagine they weren't there.

It seems they're on the drive if the search index finds and executes
Winmail.exe. It must be an Explorer setting that's wrong since I found
it in the proper folder and I did NOT enable the protected operating
system files option, although I do have show hidden files enabled.
