Where is SCAN DISK on W-XP?

Don't know what area of the country you are in, FS, but Aldi in the east and
Best Buy out here in the west sometimes carry a brand called a Medion.
German made machine. Great machines! If you can find them. Best way I've
found them is to go to Best Buy's website and do a search of their comuter
area for Medion. You can go to Medion's site (www.medion.com), but it
doesn't give you much info. I'm told they have excellent support also. I've
had about 8 clients buy these recently and they all love them. I stopped
recommending Dell (which is all I recommended for years!) because their
quality has gotten so bad.

For a year now I too have been "cussing out" XP for no Scan Disk. Go figure... All I had to do was look.

For scan disk, do the following
Place your Windows XP disk in the CD reader
Click start, then open, then type in the open box: sfc /scannow. There is a space after sfc (remember)
The Windows Disk will verify or repair files
Watch the prompts.

The tech told me to run scan disk and do a defrag before burning all my
files to CDs - or I'll lose them. But there is *no* MY COMPUTER on the
Start menu. He said Start/My Comp/C: /Tools/Ck now. My menu looks like
W98 and I don't see any info on changing it to a XP menu to find "My
Computer". How do I do a scan disk when I can't find My Computer on the
menu????

My Computer NEVER appears on the Start menu.
It will appear on the Desktop though.
See Desktop control panel, Desktop tab, Customize Desktop, and enable
the My Computer icon for it to appear.
The open My Computer on the desktop, right click C: drive, click
Tools, then click 'Check Now' to scan the C: drive.

Alternatively, open a command prompt and type chkdsk c:
