Where can I find advice on how to upgrade my computer?

What I am looking for is a way to my computer specs to someone or a website
and have them tell me which components are compatible with my system that I
am wishing to upgrade. For example, I want to upgrade my motherboard and
videocard and cpu, but I am not sure which ones work with what and whether
or not they are even compatible with my current computer. Any ideas? I
have been fighting with this for days now.

Already fighting this for about 12 years....
If i find out something,3 new things have appeared.

Go,buy a ready to go System from a Vendor. It will save you many time.

Obviously, if someone has come here to ask a question, they've already
decided to build their system, which is always the best choice, IMO.

I'm reading this in a.c.h. and I don't think you can assume they've made
that decision. I totally disagree that building your own system is always
the best choice. There is a certain amount of learning that should precede
building your own system and usually some learning afterwards whether you
want it or not. Not everyone has the time, aptitude or desire to become a
computer geek.

Sorry for answering so late...I waited for something to decline your
comment.

From this group:
"Well, in the beginning i thought it was a good idea, and i still do.
but right now im in a difficult stage where there is 1 piece of
hardware (mobo) and i have absolutely no knowledge of this piece at
all. So far, i have my case, powersupply, cd-rom, harddrive, and a
video card. To my best knowledge all i need now is my motherboard,
CPU
and RAM. So the next piece i want to get it my motherboard, because i
have no idea what kind of cpu's and ram is compatible with what. i
already took a risk by buying the video card first. the internet is
so
cluttered these days with junk/ads i cant tell whats what. im totally
stuck on what i should do. any help/advice would be greatly
appreciated."

So i might always suggest some new pc-builders a
prebuild-system,because of this.At this stage (the OP was or others
will be),so many could go wrong. If you have at least 3 Systems build
before the new one,you wont hear my comment....
