There is no hibernate button is XP either. He just does not get it. Don't
bother with him. :)

Yes there is. You have to keep SHIFT pressed down and then the Standby
button turns into a Hibernate one.

Show me the "hibernate" button"

"Off" shall referring to "in hybernated state" and the machine is truely
There is still some power on the 5V rail, IIRC. This can still power USB
devices on one of my Asus motherboards, and is also used to keep the NIC
powered, if you are using Wake On Lan.

The amount of power used can differ. I have an old PIII-800 that uses 5W
when off, and I have a quad-core opteron server that uses over 15W when
off, as it has a KVM-over network card (Lights-Out).

You means even the power LED is not on or blink, the power supply unit of
the computer still can supply electricity to usb device etc?
Oic. But in asian country, most power plug come with an on-off switch. We
can totally cut off the power supply but turn it off, without having to
unplug.

Could you translate that question please? It makes even less sense
than most of the gibberish you've been posting.

This starts from my previous post with other subject, which you do not
follow maybe.

Oic, someone dont even know there is Hibernate button in old xp Start menu.

Synapse already told you how and you still ask.
"Press the SHIFT button in xp and the standby will change to Hibernate."

Thats why i said " do you know who to read people posting carefully?" in my
previous post.

This clearly show that im not the one to make stupid questions.

I already mentioned so many times here, also even in the previuos subject i
posted.
MY VISTA DOES NOT HAVE THIS HIBERNATE BUTTON IN THE START MENU.
Many vista user in this region also do not have that.

Hibernate relies on a setting in your system BIOS - S3(STR) suspend to ram.
If your BIOS is not set with that option, then your computer will not
hibernate.

totally cut off the power supply but turn it off, without having to
unplug.

Here in the UK some computer power supplies have switches on the back, some
don't. Obviously, by using that switch, you can disconnect the power
completely, but it isn't very convenient to reach behind the box each time.

Similarly with wall sockets - some have switches and some don't.

My point was that - on the computers I've measured - there is no difference
in power consumption between 'standby' and 'off', UNLESS you disconnect the
mains supply using the switch on the back, or unplug it, neither of which
are convenient.

Therefore I stand by my assertion: for desktop machines, forget about
hibernate, and use hybrid sleep instead. I do accept that this may be
different for laptops, as Chirag points out.
