If I HAD to answer I'd say the BIOS and the CMOS were the most fundemental components - so the motherboard.
However, this is a bit like saying "What is the most important part of the human body? The Brain, the skin, the heart, the lungs, the Liver..."
A computer IS the combination of all these things... granted you could have less RAM like you could have less fingers (in some kind of freek accident or something), or you could go without a computer case like you could go without hair. Still, you could only really say that the case is the LEAST important part on that list from a utilitarian perspective.. and it still serves an important purpose.. soo...
