What price would a two or three year old 19 inch monitor fetch in
the UK?

I have tried eBay but the auctions for 19 inch minitors seem to
have some weird pricing. http://snipurl.com/51b5

Any idea what such a thing goes for?

Completed items on Ebay seem to be around 60 quid for a basic model of that
size.
Name brands Like Sony or Iiyama fetch a bit more.

Any idea where this monitor might be purchased for £55?

I'd be inclined to pay the £2.50 just to post another auction on ebay
giving the same information away for free! ;-)

I would be very suprised if the information given out isn't just a link
to a website running a matrix scheme where you pay £55 for a CD full of
game demos which gets you put next in line on the list, or something
similar.

Look at his feedback, just a link to one of those illegal gifting schemes.
Don't be mislead, keep your £2.50

No one its just another matrix scam. This time they are upping the
payment to make to seem more credible than than the get it for a
tenner schemes. Much like the get a Sony Vio for £175 quid schemes.

The really sad thing is that when you see multiple adverts for this on
ebay you just know some of them have spent their £175 quid :-)

It is just a variation on pyramid selling
You pay £55 to be put on the list
providing you then sell the info to enough people who go on to the list too,
eventually you are top and you get your monitor
Of course like all pyramid selling schemes it only works for the initial few who
instigate the scam as everyone else fails to convince anyone to join the list

Click the "Go to larger picture" link, then scroll up a bit; in the ALL
CAPS "disclaimer":

PLEASE NOTE WE ARE NOT SELLING THE MONITORS DIRECTLY, WE ARE SELLING THE
INFORMATION AND LINK TO A PLACE WHERE YOU MAY OBTAIN THE MONITOR FOR
£55. ONCE YOU HAVE PAID THE AMOUNT YOU HAVE BID, YOU WILL BE SENT ALL
THE INFORMATION REQUIRED TO ORDER THE MONITOR FOR £55

Which roughly translates as, "I'm running a scam, or I know a (wo)man
who is".

The prices at that URL are the current bid. Generally, the longer until
the end of the auction the lower the price. In the last hour or so there
will be a flurry of bidding and the price reaches a realistic level.

If you are seriously considering buying off eBay then you should
register[1] so you "Watch" (click the links on the item pages) items of
interest. Don't bid at first, just watch the trends and you'll get a
good idea of what you could expect to pay. Most importantly, read the
seller's feedback for any item you are considering buying - that will
help you weed out ones you may have trouble with, although the Computing
section seems quite "straight", i.e. not many scam and con merchants.

FWIW, I bought everything, except CPUs, case, and monitor, to build my
new dual-processor machine and got kit that would cost £2000 new for jut
under £700. The only thing wrong with any of it was a broken hinge pin
on the flap that cover the extra keys on the keyboard that the seller
omitted to mention , but it was so trivial it wan't even worth mentioning.

One golden rule to abide by is, "If it seems too good to be true, then
it probably is".

[1] You need to give your CC details but you are under no obligation to
buy or sell but the advantage is that you get a Watched Items list which
makes tracking auction so much easier.

I paid about $200 for a MAG 19" Monitor new.
