Now that Vista has RTMed, what functionality would you like to see either in
a service / feature pack, extra, or future version of Windows? Please post
here with what you would like to see, why you think that people would use it
and I will try to pass the suggestions along to MS.

I guess this is why Microsoft started the Windows Early Feedback program.

Tom:

I would like there to be a meaningful mechanism for reporting bugs in
the OS. One where you could view the status of the bugs you have reported.

I would like to be able to move the taskbar "tabs" so I can keep them in
order even after opening and closing programs/browsers

I would like to see the elimination of SPP and other programs that
assume that the paying customer is a thief until they prove otherwise.
Eliminating all the DRM crap would be a big plus as well. I would like
to see MS go after the pirates without involving paying customers.

Of course, I am in dreamland because MS will only get worse in this
regard, not better.

The ability to set up a list of trusted programs that UAC will allow to run.
The ability to change the fonts and colours when using the Vista theme
(especially the colour used for selected item when the control is not
focused).
The ability to remove the ridiculous DRM stuff (even if it means swearing
on you mother's life you will never down-load music/pictures)

I would like to see a better backup system with imaging to multiple
removable media supported in all the versions, I would also like to see the
backup program be able to read backups from all previous versions of
Windows.

I would like to see an easier to use interface to the firewall
configuration.

- WinFS (I've read somewhere that Ballmer is planning it for SP1 so I hope
it's true and WinFS is not completely dumped as distinct technology)
- PowerShell available out of the box - absolute must for broad adoption.
(hopefully it will be part of SP1)
- WMDC available out of the box
- 'Problem Reports and Solutions' improvements (ditto to David)
- Taskbar icon for winver, for Christ sake LOL. Current generic icon looks
just soo lame...

I swear there was much more but that's what I can think of off the top of my
head.

As a side note, I don't think we should expect/ask for things like advanced
backup solutions. That's what ISV are for. It was always that way with
Windows: If you need just basic functionality, use builtin tool, otherwise
buy advanced product from Microsoft or third party ISV.

Tom,
Strongly encourage users for Installing BitLocker Setup “Off-line†using 256
Encryption before the user installs -any- third party applications is of
utmost importance for protecting Vista’s OS Protected System Source Code. The
previous statement was learned the difficult method…

And what a marvelous learning experience; realizing the incredibly Safety
and Security provided by the most Secure OS on the Globe that will soon
revolutionize the computer industry!

Again, the above will significantly reduce users from telephoning Microsoft
Tech Support; secondary to user induced application conflicts.

If Vista prepared morning coffee and other household chores that would be
nice…

I hear that with the next version of Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM)
you'll be able to order take-out, it will do you laundry for you, and pick
up the kids from school. :)

It was very impressive at the time although not impressive enough that I
considered a career in computers. I remember being extremely impressed but
because the computer was so big, it took up a large room, I thought it would
be limited to the corporate world which didn't interest me much back then.

"Whose kids are these?!?!"

I mean, otherwise, couldn't we just do the same thing you're going to do
ourselves?

Yup.

I don't know the exact date. All I have been told is that it will be sometime
early next year. By guess would be sometime right after General Availability.

Is there currently means of re-starting/shutting down the system so that
when it re-starts the desktop appears with all previously open windows open
again in previous positions?.

Same question. Can't we do that ourselves? Same answer. Yup.

Anyone can go to Connect.Microsoft.com and sign in using Passport. Once in,
you can find product groups looking for user feedback. Some connect sites
are open to all comers, others can be applied for, and still others are by
invitation only. Any user of this newsgroup can be a "Connect user" by just
logging in.

I'm trying to assess your qualifications for being the spokesman for the
entire community. Not that I think there should be a single spokesperson
for the community but if there were going to be one, or a group of them,
wouldn't you think it would be the MVP community?

Also, there's another way users can post their suggestions to Microsoft
about Vista today. Open this group in the web-based reader at
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/co...spx?dg=microsoft.public.windows.vista.general.
Click New to create a new post and, on the provided list of message types,
select Suggestion for Microsoft.

I have seen my own suggestions made in that way responded to by Microsoft
and I have seen other posters receive responses from Microsoft Windows Vista
team members who have also said they would get their posts in front of the
product team.

Until you get that barbeque invitation, you're just not offering anything
useful.

But thanks for your concern for all of us as a community.

Dale

The way to suggest improvements for released products is emailing
(e-mail address removed) . All suggestions at that addy are triaged.
