_Mike Echo_, venerdì 19/nov/2004:
Is there a Firefox extension that places a small button somewhere and
allows you to turn off image downloading on the fly (ala Opera IIRC)?
I have browsed several times but haven't found anything.

This would be a winner for those times you visit news sites and don't
want all those crappy ads. A simple a RMB on the image placeholder could
load the picture if desired. This was the one thing I loved most about
Opera.

TIA.

Yes, I have dialup. :-(

Me too on dialup, without any hope to get something better because I live
above a hill, far from the mad crowd ;-)

I'm using an extension, Diggler, that among other tools gives you the
options to:
- show all images
- show images from the same source
- show no images

They are in a drop-down list under its button.
I find it very useful, hope it helps.

Prefbuttons has a checkbox you can put on your toolbar for turning off
images in a specific tab, . Toolbar enhancemnets uses buttons.

Prefbar probably has that too.

In addition to the answers you got which give what you want and more,
there is an extension that handles only what you want.

By grab-and-drag scrolling, do you mean the scrolling functionality provided
by mouseimp or the scrollbar anywhere firefox extension that I mentioned or
are you talking about any scrolling which is done by moving the mouse? Using
scrollbars is different to using mouseimp or scrollbar anywhere which again
is quite different to using autoscroll. I personally believe that autoscroll
does not provide an efficient way of scrolling through a document quickly as
it is difficult to stop and if you do click the scrollwheel button again to
stop you then need to click it again to start where as with scrollbar
anywhere, you can simply right click once and drag until you finish the
document.

So you have installed and tested either mouseimp or scrollbar anywhere and
found that you preferred other methods of scrolling?

Or, is there another program or extension that does what mouseimp or
scrollbar anywhere does and if there is would you please let me know what it
is?

Thanks

I meant specifically the kind of scrolling your were talking about
when you said "Now direct scroll is much easier to use and certainly
quicker as it allows you to right click and drag up and down without
having to use the scroll bars. As soon as your mouse stops so does
the webpage (unlike the auto scroll feature)."

Autoscroll takes some getting used to, but once you get used to
centering the mouse it's not inefficient. That said, I do some short-
range scrolling with the scrollbar, but I prefer to do most scrolling
with the keyboard.
So you have installed and tested either mouseimp or scrollbar
anywhere and found that you preferred other methods of scrolling?

Since I don't like that kind of scrolling, it's been a long time since
installed any scrolling extentions, and I don't know if they were these
or some others. mouseimp sounds familiar, but I don't think I tried
scrollbar anywhere.
Or, is there another program or extension that does what mouseimp

Sorry, I don't know what's available out there now.

Thanks to all you good folk who answered my request. I'll download some
and am sure I'll find what I am after in there somewhere.
