Hi.
SCSI card BIOS enable and configured???
My scsi card does not have a bios or an acessible bios, i hade mailed the
adaptec to see if there was a special configuration of keys to hit to go to
the SCSI Bios but i was told that there's non.
Yes, system bios its configured to boot from SCSI Card.
Thanks

Out of interest, when you have the XP CD in the drive and you are asked to
hit a key to boot what happens if you do hit a key - I assume it will take
you into the XP install?

Can you paste what you have in your C:\Boot.ini file as well?

J.

your from the UK so you better hope your MSI mobo doesnt give you any
troubles
as MSI DO NOT TAKE BACK PRODUCTS UNDER WARRANTY IN THE UK..
to get around this they have an "Undocumented" warranty change, the uk
warranty goes from 3 years to 1 year, and during the first year they REQUIRE
it to be returned via their reseller...

Any other ideia?

Hello.
Hidden files and folders yes but as normal, just for system files.
Yes, that boot.ini is a backup like boot.ini.backup.
Strange but no, i can't see them in c:\ the files config and autoexec, ntldr
and ntdetect.com.
It feels like were close to the error?
Please say yes.
Thanks mate for your time.
Hope to get this done really soon.

Your boot.ini is correct in its wording for a Windows XP install on the
first partition of your first drive but it is located in the wrong place. It
MUST be in your C:\ root and MUST be called boot.ini

You have a spare in your C:\Windows\Pss folder but it is CLEARLY labelled as
boot.ini.backup

Do you have 'Hidden Files And Folders' hidden??? If you do then your
boot.ini in your C:\ root will be hidden. Can you see other files in your
C:\ root such as Config.sys, Autoexec.bat, NTLDR, NTDETECT.com?

If you can't see those files in your C:\ root then either you have them
hidden or you don't have them. If you don't have them then you ain't going
to boot into Windows.

To UNHIDE these files - in order to see if they are there - go to Windows
Explorer\TOOLS\FOLDER OPTIONS\VIEW and select SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS
and then click on APPLY and OK. You should now see all those files in your
C:\

If they are not there then copy them from you PSS folder but don't forget to
remove the .BACKUP ending to them all.

Which Adaptec scsi card do you have ? What did you format the original
install with, NTFS or Fat32 ? Is the card showing up normal in the
device manager ? Can you get into the OS, I think you said you can ?
Did you try a second install ? Maybe install the drivers for the scsi
card manually from floppy during install (F6 prompt for additional
controller drivers) You should see a scsi bios flash during bootup and
the scsi bios identifying the hard drive. Have you tried to set the
scsi ID to something else ?. I don't think its software thing. Has
this hardware configuration ran before with 98 or NT ?
First time for this configuration ? More details would be nice mate

Hello mate.

Adaptec SCSI Card Dual Channel 160.
The instalation was in NTFS format.
Yes, it shows normal.
Yes, i can get into the operating system by using the windows xp cd.
Yes, i did try a second instalation.
It wont do any good cause i had this card running for like 4 months in
windows XP but with a MSI mobo.
SCSI bios flash no. This SCSI card has no flash bios or bios flash so that
you can hit a key and go into a setting menu, sorry, i send an e-mail to
Adaptec and its confirmed.
Yes, this card has been used on another system almost like this one, the
only thing that changes is the mobo, the processor PIV 2.4GHz 533MHz to PIV
2.4GHz 800Mhz and the ram 512MB DDR 266Mhz to 512MHz PC400Mhz.
I do know that i have made a shearch on the SCSI disk and there was no files
like the following;

boot.ini, NTLDR and NTDETECT.com in my c:\root or in the drive disk itself.

No, its not the first time for this configuration if you mean using the
SCSI card.
Hope that it helps you guys to help me in a better way.

In instalation, shouldn't those files, boot.ini, NTLDR and NTDETECT.com, be
in the c:\ like automatic?

Carlos Arruda

Thanks all.

I have this error when i turn on or boot the pc.:

Nothing alse then this and i am getting crazy with this, my
dear
MSI
Mobos,
never given me any problems....

Remember guys, it does boot from the SCSI Card if i put the
windows
XP
instalation CD on the second boot device=Cd-Rom..

ME will NOT see any drive because ME uses FAT/FAT32 and XP uses NTFS5 and ME
knows nothing about NTSF5 - so don't waste your time there.

Well, it sounds to me as if you did a bl**dy awful install of Windows XP and
you are going to have no other choice but to install it again.

You MUST have your driver for your SCSI Controller and VERY EARLY in the
Windows XP install you will be asked to press F6 if you want to install
additional drivers - it comes up and goes quickly so you have to be ready
for it - at which point you press F6, place a floppy with your SCSI
Controller driver in and then carry on with the XP install.

So, go do a fresh install.

Hello mate.
I only have yhe boot.ini, config.sys and system.ini nothing else and
they
were all all in the pss folder.
I do not have either Autoexec.bat, NTLDR, NTDETECT.com.
I already copy into the c:\ the files i had but when the pc boots it
gives
me the same error.
Now what to do?
Thanks

If you can't see those files in your C:\ root then either you have
them
hidden or you don't have them. If you don't have them then you ain't
going
to boot into Windows.

To UNHIDE these files - in order to see if they are there - go to
Windows
Explorer\TOOLS\FOLDER OPTIONS\VIEW and select SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND
FOLDERS
and then click on APPLY and OK. You should now see all those
files
in
your
C:\

If they are not there then copy them from you PSS folder but don't
forget
to
remove the .BACKUP ending to them all.

J.

Hello.
Hidden files and folders yes but as normal, just for system files.
Yes, that boot.ini is a backup like boot.ini.backup.
Strange but no, i can't see them in c:\ the files config and
autoexec,
ntldr
and ntdetect.com.
It feels like were close to the error?
Please say yes.
Thanks mate for your time.
Hope to get this done really soon.

Well, there's a problem for a start.

Your boot.ini is correct in its wording for a Windows XP install
on
the
first partition of your first drive but it is located in the wrong
place.
It
MUST be in your C:\ root and MUST be called boot.ini

You have a spare in your C:\Windows\Pss folder but it is CLEARLY
labelled
as
boot.ini.backup

Do you have 'Hidden Files And Folders' hidden??? If you do then
your
boot.ini in your C:\ root will be hidden. Can you see other files
in
your
C:\ root such as Config.sys, Autoexec.bat, NTLDR, NTDETECT.com?

If you can't see them they are hidden. If they weren't there you PC would
not boot. Glad it is working. Now, take my advice - switch the PC off,
unplug it, put it in a cupboard and never touch it again! :-)
