I use this web based anonymous email. Make up any account

address. http://www.dodgeit.com/, freeweb based email account.

Wow, thanks, the first three I tried offered me a new mortgage, the ability
to break-through-a-brick-wall-with-your-manhood and some ladies who are
dying to meet me. Great idea, but looks like spammy found it to.

Rod I think that is the main ideal.
It really is more of a spam trap.

Using this keeps your real addy private.

Thanks Rod,

We already have Mailinator listed - which apparently works well.

IMO we should try to list the the *best* Webware for each task.

but. . . storage isn't software/Webware. . .

http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/acf/Webware.php
Webware: On-line software (may have related services such as on-line
storage).

It will probably become very difficult to differentiate between
"software" and other useful resources because all internet resources
need some kind of software to run at all, otherwise you would not get
any results back.

I think it would be better for the user if we simply list valuable free
resources on internet, no matter if they can strictly be defined as
software or some other kind of ware.

As a user of the webware list I want to see all kinds of free resources
I could have use for, including storage space, which can also be used
for sending files to friends, for example.

For example: http://www.dnsstuff.com/
is a valuable resource which could be included.

I don't know if that resource can be defined as "software" or not, and I
don't care, I just think it is a very useful function and it is free.

"Valuable free resources" could include any useful site on the net. I
think we have to be more specific than that.

That's a valid point. OTOH the original request was for a page with
online software. Online storage might be a useful *exception*. IMO that
page *should* have a "ware" focus.

Very nice. :)

http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/acf/Links.php

We *don't* have links to FTP search sites - I think a third page (Search
Tips) with links and info on how to search for freeware might be useful.
ISTM the alternative is adding those links to the Webware page.

The Links page is for sites with useful information. IMO it could use
more links - for Multimedia apps, Graphics apps etc. There are some
newsgroups and sites I see mentioned here fairly often.

Comments about the pages - what should be included or not included - and
suggestions for additonal links are welcome.

We cannot assume that "The original request" always includes and defines
everything we want and need. Original requests often need to be changed
later to include more than was originally specified.

I think the best perspective is the customers view.

The people who want solutions for their problems, answers to their
questions, functions which give them what they need, are not so
interested in precise definitions or principles. Sometimes the solution
can be to download and install something, sometimes a web page or an ftp
site gives them the solution, etc..

As long as the solution is available for free it is interesting for the
users. They are looking for free solutions and answers to their needs no
matter if the solution can be strictly defined as free software or maybe
as other free internet resources.

The word ware, as in webware, can mean a lot more than just software,
IMO. If people in acf are interested in free storage space, for example,
I see no problem in including such resources too.

I agree. That's why I asked for comments from the group. :)

The Webware page is here:

http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/temp/Webware.php

This is a temporary page - what does it need to be ready for prime
time?

Please take a look and post comments and suggestions.

Thanks to everyone who's been putting this together. It's an interesting
list.

Here's a few I'd like to recommend-

Date Calculator Page
http://cgi.cs.duke.edu/~des/datecalc/datecalc.cgi
"Calculate the number of days
between two dates."

BrowserTune
http://www.browsertune.com
"Browsertune is ideal for:
• Comparing competing browsers (for example, Microsoft's versus
Netscape's versus Opera's...)
• Diagnosing what's wrong with a flaky, unstable, or degraded browser
• Comparing ISP performances
• Verifying that your modem, cable, LAN or other connection is
delivering the speed you're paying for
• Fixing any of the hundreds of problems that can crop up in today's
browsers
• Ensuring that web plug-ins and add-on components haven't degraded your
browser's performance, security, or stability
• Validating new browser installations; ensuring that everything
installed correctly
• Discovering everything your browser can do--- not just the basics you
may already be familiar with
• Learning about today's best web technologies and much, much more!"

RhymeZone - Rhyming Dictionary and Thesaurus
http://www.rhymezone.com/
"A language arts reference tool and comprehensive search engine for
words. Includes the functions of a rhyming dictionary, thesaurus, and
spelling checker, as well as an integrated full-text search engine for
all of Shakespeare's works and thousands of quotations and poems."

Julian Date Converter
http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/JulianDate.html
"This utility converts from calendar date and time to Julian date, and
vice versa. The direction of conversion is selected by the calculation
type. The form is initialized to current UT date and time, as determined
by the clock on your computer. CE and BCE designate "common era" and
"before common era". The weekday field is read-only and is determined
from the Julian date."

Hero Machine
http://www.ugo.com/channels/comics/heroMachine2/
Create your own Superhero or Supervillian!

Biblical Curse Generator
http://www.ship-of-fools.com/Features/Curses/Curses_body.html
"Lost for a smart remark to see off your enemies? Unable to deliver that
killer insult? Put an end to "I was speechless!" misery with the amazing
Biblical Curse Generator, which is pre-loaded with blistering put-downs
as delivered by Elijah, Jeremiah and other monumentally angry saints."

ASCII Generator
http://www.network-science.de/ascii/
"Generate a ASCII graphic from a word or text. Over 130 fonts."

I did not ask you to speak for me. Please refrain from doing so. If
you do not appreciate the effort that Susan and others have exerted into
this project, then I suggest that you f*** off and go somewhere else.

: Just give up and forget it. This is nothing people can't find as fast
: by themselves using Google. It really doesn't impress me and from the
: comments I read here many, if not most, don't care at all. It was nice
: and useful for some a few years, but now it's simply another wink and
: nod as most go to the next subject forgetting about Useless Ware in 5
: minutes. Thanks for the nice job you've done, but it really isn't
: appreciated anymore.
