I cannot see my website after it has been published. It is blank. What can
I do to see the site?

That's funny we can't see it either...how's about you post a link?

Does it have an index.htm, index.html, default.htm or default.html page?

Had you published it previously and it disappeared or is this the first time
you've published it?

I am using FrontPage 2002 and it is the first time I have ever used this
program or any FrontPage or website program that I have built myself. Yes,
it has an index file and a public file.

What is the name of your "home" page? It's the one with a little "home"
icon on it in FrontPage. You must have a home page and it must be named the
same as what your web host set up. Check with them for the correct name.

I have never seen a little house in FrontPage. My home page doesn't have a
little house. I worked with my server for 2 1/2 hours yesterday. After we
got it straightened out, it wouldn't show up on the internet
www.cozyhomejewelrystore.com>website
I had read that if you have the little arrows<><> in html wrong<>< it can
cause the page not to show up after being published. I went into my homepage
and found one arrow without a match, went to my site, fixed the problem, made
sure it was fixed in html (and it was) but it still won't show up on the web.

If I go to:
http://www.cozyhomejewelrystore.com/

this is the entire content ( source )of the page that opens.
<html>

<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252" x-undefined>
<meta name="GENERATOR" content="Microsoft FrontPage 5.0">
<meta name="ProgId" content="FrontPage.Editor.Document">
</head>

<body>

</body>

</html>

Which is essentially a blank page.

It appears that there is no "default" document.

What is the file title of your home ( or main ) page in your web.
The one you want people to see when they open:

I am new to this, but may have had a similar issue. I renamed my "index.htm"
to "index.html" and my web site finally came up.
Good Luck!

FrontPage Savvy:
For your original question re: Website Publishing (6/27/2007 at 10:25 PM)
you didn't answer an important question posed by Rob (Crash) posted at
(6/27/2007 at 10:59 PM). His question:
"Does it have an index.htm, index.html, default.htm or default.html page?"
Your answer reads:
"Yes, it has an index file and a public file."

What is important is, is your index file extension .htm or .html?
Or should it be default.htm or default.htm.

You have to ask your server how to label that page. It makes a big
difference if you name it index.htm, or if you name it index.html. If you
have visited your ISP's help pages for web authors, it may be written there.
Or you will have to call them and talk to someone. They are the ones who
have already decided how that page has to be labeled in order for it to be
used by the server.

Then Dave Berry's instruction on 6/28/2007 at 2:27 PM asked what the name of
your 'home' page was. On your main FrontPage menu click on View,
Navigation. On this chart, find the highest level "page" that has a little
picture of a 'home' - It will be the name of your directory on the server.
What is its name on the chart? Your ISP's server must give you that. When
you use the "Publish Web" command, you will type the directory name and your
password.

You also added a comment to Neil Ogden's postings "FrontPage publishing
Problem" where you noted you and the server "published to ftp://, then we
published it to http://". Usually, the person at the server doesn't know
anything about FrontPage, and should not be telling you how to publish. And
if you are really supposed to use the FTP procedure, you don't do it with
the publish command in FrontPage. It is usually done with FrontPage editor
closed, and you either FTP through the browser, or you have your own File
Transfer program. Most of the server people have no clue about the types of
accounts that can or cannot have FrontPage Extensions. If you actually have
an account that has/uses FrontPage Extensions, then you have probably broken
them. If you have an account that does not include FrontPage Extensions, the
server person may not even know that, and will repair and reset them for
you, and your account's control panel may give you the message that they
have been reset and installed, but that is an automatic reply that is
generated, and may not be so. On other posts during the last few days I
have seen how you test for proving if you do or don't have FP Extensions.

If you end up not having FP Extensions, and need to do FTP, make sure you
have selected the correct server directory. Your ISP tells you what that is,
also.

Did you specifically request FP Extensions when you requested your web
account? If you got any communication from your ISP, you may want to reread
all of it. If those are the main problems, and you fix them, then maybe we
could see your site and read your source files to see what else is wrong.
Don't lose hope.
Finally, With all you have done, your computer's FrontPage Cache is full of
unuseful data, and the *.tmp files probably also need to be deleted. Last of
all, , in FrontPage, close all pages and Recalculate Hyperlinks. That cleans
out a lot of stuff before you send your web to the internet again.

Standard home pages are; index.htm, index.html, default.htm,
default.html...whatever your host requires..you can't just make a name up
yourself unless the host is willing (or has) set page_1.htm as your home
page. Check with your host's publishing instructions it should tell you what
it should be - then open your website in FP and rename it to whatever the
host requires...then republish. FP should show your homepage as a little
house icon, you "may" have to right click on your homepage icon and choose
"Set As Homepage".

But don't try to make page 1.htm your homepage unless that's what your host
has it set to.

Also...don't use spaces in folder or file names.

After this problem is straightened out we will tell you the awful truth
about using; textboxes, autoshapes, wordart etc. - we wouldn't want to
meltdown just yet :-)

Okay, Guys,

You all are great! I'm going to take you on one at a time until I get my
site up. So far...when I removed the space from "page 1.htm" to "page1.htm"
all kinds of things started happening. My mouth fell open. I'm like
hmmm..This is the message, "There are 80 pages that have hyperlinks to this
page . Do you want to update these pages so that the hyperlinks will not be
boken?" And, of course, I said, "yes". Then another thing popped at me. It
said and did this, "Renaming pg1 as index.htm." And it did just that. I
feel like I killed 2 birds with 1 stone. All of my files have a space in
them so, let me go back and fix my files.

I haven't republished yet but I finally got to see something that I had never
seen before. It has never showed up until now. It read, "set as homepage".
When I had the choice to click it, it renamed my pg1 as index.htm. Whew!

The file is "index.htm". I chose a server that allowed front page extensions
(I did a lot of reading before I chose the server I did). It allows me to
install or uninstall extensions (on my cpanel). And I will "recalculate
hyperlinks". If you want to check out my server, they are:
www.routhost.com.

I have a house!!!! I recalculated hyperlinks.
