Low on details, but earthquakes do not produce mechanical shock
that can directly harm HDDs. They just do not. Also vibration
does not kill HDDs, it just produces bad sectors on write.

This is possibly indirect damage: Computers banging against walls
and table-legs and falling over or things falling on them. It could
also just be a shameless advertising lie. Also 1-in-4 computers to
come into a repair shop to have HDD damage does not sound unusual
at all.
