I've thought about this a bit, and I've modified VueScan 8.0
to not watermark when:
Thanks Ed and appreciate your responses from all the posters and
potential customers. Having been in the business (computers) for
years and a programmer for part of that I can understand your need for
protecting a good product.
1) For transparent material, when the scan is less than the optical
resolution
When you say optical resolution I'm assuming you mean in the case of
the LS5000 ED less than 4000 dpi. This is still a higher resolution
than many scanners and more than most users would ever need.
2) For reflective material, when the scan is less than the minimum of
optical resolution and 300 dpi
On the flat bed I rarely scan at greater than 300. I'd likely be
unable to tell the difference scanning at slightly less.
I mentioned this as because "to my way of thinking" (which could be
flawed) the Beta would need to expire, or use some method of
preventing the user from continuing to use it after the full fledged
version is released as the resolutions listed are probably "good
enough" for many, if not most day-to-day users. For those of us who
use the higher resolutions it wouldn't, but I'm guessing we are
relatively few in number.
As I read one of your responses the app does not do batch processing
and I rarely run less than 4 or 5 images at a time. With slides it's
usually 36 to 50, or full roll batches.
My other potential use is the reading of RAW files from my D-70 which
has been back to the dealer since the flash broke.
Again, thank you for the prompt attention to my concerns.
