Re-read the sentence, Gordon

'the only difference is that you have to use the 'telephone' activation
option rather than an automatic internet activation.'

But you also HAVE to use telephone activation with XP as well.

Not every time you install you don't. With Vista you can activate over the
internet one time; after that you need telephone activation. With XP you can
install and simply activate over the internet. The only caveat to this is if
you re-install too often (less that every 120 days) in which case you would
be required to activate over the telephone.

if the world economy plunges and microsoft closes who will be there to
answer when you call for telephone activation?

I hated this activation crap right from the start.... the pirates have
found work arounds anyway! lol

Vista has been a big blow on microsoft... if they do the same shit with
windows7, I guess you will be an MVP for a company that no longer exists!

When Microsoft closes it's doors, the world as we know it will change. You
will no longer need to use a computer. Etch-A-Sketch will become the
defacto standard.

False. If you reinstall XP on the same computer with no hardware
changes, it will activate on line no problems. I know because I have
done it. You end up having to call if you change your hardware enough to
prompt XP to think you're installing it on another computer. If 120 days
has gone by and you haven't changed any hardware and after the 120 days,
you do change hardware or even install it on another computer, it will
activate on line because the hardware hash on MS' servers has been wiped
clean.

Maybe you should concentrate your efforts in the Dr. Laura and Rush Limbaugh
forums where you have posted over 53,212 insulting posts as Adam Albright.
You had to change your name because you were blasted all over this newsgroup
and then you felt like shit.

Once you move to the right wing nut case forums, then and only then can this
forum become normal.

And that is a big ****ing Just FYI.

Well actually, I've done "real work" with Linux. I did scientific software
support and development for DOD for 30 years. Did some heavy apps
involving digital signal processing of coherent radar signals for target
motion resolution - we didn't do it with ms. I also develop web sites - on
Linux - and more.

You used custom apps created by the DOD. It could have been created on any
system but they chose Linux. BFD.
For the normal user, Ubuntu is a ****ed up OS not worth a SHIT.

I don't agree with your profane assessment.

You mean professional assessment. I agree, Ubuntu is worth exactly what
you pay for it.

I see. For you profanity equals professionalism. Well, that tells me where
you are coming from. I guess you know all about all of those sensitive DOD
test systems relying on MS for real time test data acquisition.

You can't fool me. You are an idiot. You will always be an idiot. How
many laminated Idiot Club cards have you suckered people into accepting?
How big is the treehouse you meet in with your Idiot Club? Do you serve

Sorry. I meant to reply to Ringmaster the vista group retard.

Sorry. I do not. Custom software can be written for any OS to run on any
machine. Doesn't matter if it's Linux or MS.

My professional assessment is that Ubuntu is shit. Ubuntu will always be
shit. Imagine that Ubuntu/Linux is FREE and nobody wants it. That should
tell you all you need to know about the product.

People would rather pay for MS products than use FREE Open Sores software.
Period.

False premises lead to false conclusions. You obviously don't know what
you're talking about.

If you knew what you were talking about you wouldn't have remarked in
another post that Open Office 2.4 can't open .docx files when it can.
You've *never* installed Intrepid Ibex so, naturally, you don't know
what you're talking about regarding the latests version of Ubuntu.
