Vista Ultimate Retail Box

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone know if in the full retail the x32 and x64 version of
Vista Ultimate are included, the reason I'm asking is that I received an offer
from Amazon to pre-buy it, but I want both x32 and x64

Yes they are. But you won't be able to use both at the same time, as the
licence is for one machine and they share the product key.

Hi Paul!

Will I be able to do this on the same PC:

1. install x32
2. ghost x32 installation to an image
3. install x64
4. ghost x64 installation to an image
5. restore x32 image or x64 image to use both versions (but not at the same
time of course)

What about dual booting on the same machine?

Internet activation will fail on one of the installs. I'm not a lawyer but
I'm sure they've got that covered in their license somewhere.

If you can't do this, then I would assume that one cannot install x32,
then later replace it with the x64, either on the original machine or on
a different one after removing the x32 from the original? In other
words, once one uses either version (x32 or x64), then the other version
becomes effectively becomes rendered unusable (due to the activation
factor)?
 
The version number was not included in the activation algorithm I saw for
Vista, so if it is installed on the same hard drive on the same machine, I
would guess it would work automatically. For a full box version you can
install on another machine and there doesn't appear to be any license
restriction on switching versions. Just only one copy installed at a time.
 
MS has said that you will have to call and ask for the 64 bit version.

Some have said that only the UPGRADE versions will require a request for
x64 media, and that the FULL versions will include BOTH x86 and x64.

MS has said that you will have to call and ask for the 64 bit version.
NO one knows for sure until the box is available.

MS has said that you will have to call and ask for the 64 bit version.

First it is a DVD and not a CD.
Second, 32 and 64 bit are not on the same DVD.
But both DVDs are reportedly included in the full retail package.
 
One of the posters confirmed the contents of the retail full edition boxes
with his Microsoft local office in the UK. The retail upgrade edition boxes
are not known yet but probably will only contain the x86 dvd (my guess based
on Ed Bott's blog a couple of months ago).
 
Yes, it is a DVD. Sorry for that little slip. And they are both
included with the one purchase. Next time I'll be more specific for
you. "Reportedly" in the same package... It was also
"Reportedly" on the same DVD in the past. So, as far as we
know it could be either. I guess we'll find out soon, though.

It appears (from what has been said in this thread) that the MS licence will
not allow a dual boot of 32 and 64 bit Vista on the same machine.
Is this correct, and if so why?.

I thought it would have been a handy option for those users 'trying out' the
64 bit version.

I assume that you mean dual booting with the same product key.

A retail copy of Vista comes with only one product key. A retail product
key is good for activation on one device. According to the EULA a partition
or blade is a device. It may be reactivated on the same device. It may be
transferred to another device (but it must be uninstalled from the first).
If the two dvd's in the retail full edition package came with two product
keys you certainly could dual boot with the same retail package. As it
stands, attempting to activate the second instance of the OS with the same
product key should result in a message that says that the product key is
already in use.

I dual boot Vista x86 and x64 on this computer, but I have two different
product keys for that. But I don't think that is what you meant.
