Vista SP1 has crippled my PC!

Mark, I installed the HP driver, which allowed me to uninstall LightScribe
but it made no difference. The DVD is still not shown in Explorer!

I looked back over the posts and could find where you answered Yes or No to
whether your BIOS sees the DVD.

If not, you may have a hardware problem... loose cable, etc.

You did report that the USB is working, so I hope you can save off your
important files. It may be time to consider:
1. Uninstall SP1, or
2. Use the Windows System Restore instead of HP's Restore, or
3. Perform a recovery

You're getting into the area where I need to put my hands on the machine.

Small problem regarding BIOS. I can't seem to access anything that shows a
hardware listing. Maybe I'm hitting the wrong key. Why do we have to guess
the key? Can they not just tell us? Is it a secret?

F10 gets me into something that looks a bit like a BIOS, but the only
reference to an Optical Drive is to Enable or Disable. There is no
description of the device at all, or any other device.

HP's System Information utility shows nothing at all under CD/DVD.

I don't think it's a hardware problem as the drive runs OK and tries to read
media when inserted. Also, it seems mighty suspicious that it stopped
working immediately after a failed SP1 install.

Is there some other way I can access the BIOS?

Andy
