Vista RTM - Shutdown problem

I have the VISTA RTM downloaded 11/23/2006 (very cool).
Installed on a Compaq Presario V2582us.
When I select SHUTDOWN; windows shuts down but the machine is still running.
All wireless, audio, power on lights are on.
The video appears to shutdown and there is no hard drive activity.
I have to hold the power button until the power kills.
This also happens with RESTART.

Any ideas,
Frankm

I have the same annoying error on shutdown or restart. The screen on my new laptop (so much for Vista Premium ready) goes black but all the power stays on. No restart and no shutdown. Any ideas?

Which Vista?

Sounds like the laptop isn't Vista ready.

What's the make and model?

Does your system have a VIA chipset? I had this problem, and had to update
the RAID drivers.

Have you run Media Center and enabled the media power sharing mode?
If so - go to Power Options and advanced settings - disable "Allow the
computer to enter Away Mode"
