that http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/933872 would not
install on 32 bit Vista. there are two downloads on that KB, the
first one is for 32 bit Vista. EXACTLY what error message do you
get?

Can you check in Control Panel, Programs and see if it is already
installed?

and rebooted. No change.

telephone call to MS do you think they might be able to help? I'm getting
discouraged here.

1: disable the wireless adapter in device manager for now
2: unbind IPv6 from the wired connection

Keep in mind that when the laptop exits sleep mode it is connected to the
internet and then disconnects after about a minute or so.

I performed steps 1-7 under RESOLUTION and rebooted. No change. However,
I
forgot to report one behaviour. After sleep or hibernation mode,
[sometimes]Vista appears to be connected [router and internet], browsing
works, etc. BUT, the connection is lost after a minute or so. Very
strange
as this is not the case after sleep or hibernation. Does this clarify
anything for you?
Again, I only performed steps 1-7, not those following under the MORE
INFORMATION section. I am going to call NetGear and point out this
article
to them and see if they can help. In the meantime, do you have anything
else
to add?

Nvidia Gforce networking card. I have installed all windows updates.

first post. But, it does not seem to apply to the 32-bit Vista. Or, am I

Hi,
I have installed all MS updates available through Windows update. I used
the
link below and installed update #1 on the list, KB929777, "Install this
update to address an issue in storport.sys which results in a system
crash
when certain hardware configurations exist."
I did not fix the problem[no change].

Hi,
Is there not a MS MVP who can help me with this? I have a HP laptop and
HP can not help any further. They say it's a MS problem, but my laptop
does not qualify for MS Tech Support because its OEM, HP.

what I have been experiencing. I have my Vista laptop connected to my
Netgear WGR614v7 router via ethernet cable, NOT wireless.
When the laptop comes out of Sleep or Hibernation modes it loses the IP
and
other networking info and can not reconnect automatically. Two things
correct this: 1. Power cycling the router 2. Using the IPCONFIG /RENEW.
I
swapped my WGR614v6 for the WGR614v7, no change.
Is anyone else seeing this? And, the updates available in the article
above
do not include help for Vista 32-bit. I tried both and they don't
install on
the 32-bit platform. Is Microsoft going to issue something else for
Vista
Premium 32-bit?

want to spend the $$ on official support, it is your option.

I performed steps 1-7 under RESOLUTION and rebooted. No change.
However,
I
forgot to report one behaviour. After sleep or hibernation mode,
[sometimes]Vista appears to be connected [router and internet],
browsing
works, etc. BUT, the connection is lost after a minute or so. Very
strange
as this is not the case after sleep or hibernation. Does this clarify
anything for you?
Again, I only performed steps 1-7, not those following under the MORE
INFORMATION section. I am going to call NetGear and point out this
article
to them and see if they can help. In the meantime, do you have
anything
else
to add?

Nvidia Gforce networking card. I have installed all windows
updates.

But, the patch is not making any difference. I even tried uninstalling it,
rebooting, and reinstalling, rebooting, and have the same problem? Isn't
this patch supposed to fix the problem I am having?? I need to understand
what you mean before I spend some $$ and call MS.

I would try rolling back the Nvidia driver as well. If you feel you
want to spend the $$ on official support, it is your option.

You are right. It was installed on 10/12. I must have missed it. That's
why
I get the message, "The update does not apply to your system". It's
because
it was already installed?

before you do that, I'd like to go back to the statement you made
that http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/933872 would not
install on 32 bit Vista. there are two downloads on that KB, the
first one is for 32 bit Vista. EXACTLY what error message do you
get?

Can you check in Control Panel, Programs and see if it is already
installed?

Properties,
and rebooted. No change.

telephone call to MS do you think they might be able to help? I'm

1: disable the wireless adapter in device manager for now
2: unbind IPv6 from the wired connection

internet and then disconnects after about a minute or so.

One other thing (can't remember if this was discussed) - do you have
Norton or something similar installed? Canyou temporarily uninstall
if you do?

and finally, if there is still a driver issue, the patch won't help.
so if you have tried several versions of the appropriate Nvidia
driver, then you should see what MS has to say.

I performed steps 1-7 under RESOLUTION and rebooted. No change.
However,
I
forgot to report one behaviour. After sleep or hibernation mode,
[sometimes]Vista appears to be connected [router and internet],
browsing
works, etc. BUT, the connection is lost after a minute or so. Very
strange
as this is not the case after sleep or hibernation. Does this
clarify
anything for you?
Again, I only performed steps 1-7, not those following under the
MORE
INFORMATION section. I am going to call NetGear and point out this

to them and see if they can help. In the meantime, do you have
anything

I have AVG Anti-virus Free Edition. I could try uninstalling it and see if
it makes a difference. Are you sure anti-virus software could be
responsible? Internet Security Software with a firewall, etc. maybe.

One other thing (can't remember if this was discussed) - do you have
Norton or something similar installed? Canyou temporarily uninstall
if you do?

and finally, if there is still a driver issue, the patch won't help.
so if you have tried several versions of the appropriate Nvidia
driver, then you should see what MS has to say.

rebooting, and reinstalling, rebooting, and have the same problem? Isn't
this patch supposed to fix the problem I am having?? I need to understand
what you mean before I spend some $$ and call MS.

I would try rolling back the Nvidia driver as well. If you feel you
want to spend the $$ on official support, it is your option.

before you do that, I'd like to go back to the statement you made
that http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/933872 would not
install on 32 bit Vista. there are two downloads on that KB, the
first one is for 32 bit Vista. EXACTLY what error message do you
get?

Can you check in Control Panel, Programs and see if it is already
installed?

you could always re install it if it does not resolve the issue. I
don't use AVG so I don't know - but most of these install an LSP
that could impact networking. I use NOD32 myself.

I performed steps 1-7 under RESOLUTION and rebooted. No change.
However,
I
forgot to report one behaviour. After sleep or hibernation mode,
[sometimes]Vista appears to be connected [router and internet],
browsing
works, etc. BUT, the connection is lost after a minute or so. Very
strange
as this is not the case after sleep or hibernation. Does this
clarify
anything for you?
Again, I only performed steps 1-7, not those following under the

I used the System confuration Utility to do a selective startup bypassing
AVG. It did not make a difference.

you could always re install it if it does not resolve the issue. I
don't use AVG so I don't know - but most of these install an LSP
that could impact networking. I use NOD32 myself.

I have AVG Anti-virus Free Edition. I could try uninstalling it and see if
it makes a difference. Are you sure anti-virus software could be
responsible? Internet Security Software with a firewall, etc. maybe.

One other thing (can't remember if this was discussed) - do you have
Norton or something similar installed? Canyou temporarily uninstall
if you do?

and finally, if there is still a driver issue, the patch won't help.
so if you have tried several versions of the appropriate Nvidia
driver, then you should see what MS has to say.

I would try rolling back the Nvidia driver as well. If you feel you

before you do that, I'd like to go back to the statement you made
that http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/933872 would not
install on 32 bit Vista. there are two downloads on that KB, the
first one is for 32 bit Vista. EXACTLY what error message do you
get?

Can you check in Control Panel, Programs and see if it is already
installed?

I performed steps 1-7 under RESOLUTION and rebooted. No change.
However,
I
forgot to report one behaviour. After sleep or hibernation mode,
[sometimes]Vista appears to be connected [router and internet],
browsing
works, etc. BUT, the connection is lost after a minute or so.
Very
strange
as this is not the case after sleep or hibernation. Does this
clarify
anything for you?
Again, I only performed steps 1-7, not those following under the
MORE
INFORMATION section. I am going to call NetGear and point out
this

to them and see if they can help. In the meantime, do you have
anything

or was this an upgrade?

The KB article did not solve the problem. I have the latest
driver
for
my
Nvidia Gforce networking card. I have installed all windows
updates.
I
leave
the router and modem on 24/7.

you could always re install it if it does not resolve the issue. I
don't use AVG so I don't know - but most of these install an LSP
that could impact networking. I use NOD32 myself.

I have AVG Anti-virus Free Edition. I could try uninstalling it and see if
it makes a difference. Are you sure anti-virus software could be
responsible? Internet Security Software with a firewall, etc. maybe.

One other thing (can't remember if this was discussed) - do you have
Norton or something similar installed? Canyou temporarily uninstall
if you do?

and finally, if there is still a driver issue, the patch won't help.
so if you have tried several versions of the appropriate Nvidia
driver, then you should see what MS has to say.

But, the patch is not making any difference. I even tried uninstalling
it,
rebooting, and reinstalling, rebooting, and have the same problem? Isn't
this patch supposed to fix the problem I am having?? I need to

what you mean before I spend some $$ and call MS.

that is indeed the reason.

I would try rolling back the Nvidia driver as well. If you feel you
want to spend the $$ on official support, it is your option.

I get the message, "The update does not apply to your system". It's

it was already installed?

before you do that, I'd like to go back to the statement you made
that http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/933872 would not
install on 32 bit Vista. there are two downloads on that KB, the
first one is for 32 bit Vista. EXACTLY what error message do you
get?

Can you check in Control Panel, Programs and see if it is already
installed?

and rebooted. No change.

PS If I shelled out the $59 or whatever the cost for a per-incident
telephone call to MS do you think they might be able to help? I'm
getting
discouraged here.

1: disable the wireless adapter in device manager for now
2: unbind IPv6 from the wired connection

Keep in mind that when the laptop exits sleep mode it is connected

internet and then disconnects after about a minute or so.
