My machine is neither underpowered nor slow with Vista.
I just don't like having the accelerator in the trunk and the
gearshift in the wheelwell.
Vista is getting a bad reputation because it was poorley designed,
not because it is sold on underpowered machines.

Can you elaborate on why you think it's poorly designed? Other then
"accelerator in the trunk and the gearshift in the wheelwell".
All that statment says to me is you think Vista is different and you
have issues not accepting that fact.
I personally find the new UI extremely intuitive and simple to
navigate. what ever I need to look for I just type it in search and
it always shows up. IE7 works (I did have an issue with Flash but
have since found the fix)I like the new Windows Explorer and the
dynamic tool bars and buttons that change accordingly to the folder
types. I like the Navigation options, the new user folder structure
is so much easier to navigate and manage especially with Public
foldres. Networking between two Vista machines was painless. Office
2007 works without any issues that I have come across.
UAC was different but once I took the time to read about it and why
it is there I accepted it. It's only one or two damn clicks of the
mouse for crying out loud! if and now WHEN it happens which is very
rare now I have all my software installed. People that are trying to
install yesterday's software on tommorows Operating System and bitch
because it doesn't work like it use to just amazes me.
Have I had issues? Sure I've had, mainly display problems with
nvidia drivers, But I don't blame Microsoft for that. Nvidia needs to
get off their ass and make decent Vista compatable drivers.
Why did I change to Vista? I just like new experiences to me XP was
old and boring. Had I used my PC to make a living on would I have
upgraded at this time? Hell NO! anyone who just thought they would
upgrade a business machine thinking it would make them more
productive this early in the game no matter what OS it is is a fool.
Is Vista slower then XP on the same system of today? Sure it is but
then again Microsoft had tommorows hardware in mind when they made
Vista. If you think there are a lot of people whinning today about
their old hardware not working on Vista just look ahead a couple of
years and see what would be said if Microsoft hadn't looked
forward now " Microsoft sucks they knew hardware changes fast why
didn't they write code to take advantage of it " Now that would be
something to bitch about.
In MHO Vista is getting a bad rap because people are making unfounded
claims against it when 98 % of the time it is their own inablility
to adjust to something new or their rush to jump into Vista without
taking the time to see if what they already have (Hardware/software)
is up to Vistas demands.
Should Microsoft have done a better job explaining that Vista is a
new breed and been more upfront about why they made changes to the
UI and why it requires so much horsepower? Most definately! But we
do have to take responsibilty for our own actions. If anyone jumped
on Vistas bandwagon without first doing some simple reading and
researching Vistas new UI and hardware requirements it's no ones
fault but thier own.
