Ummm...let's see...P on my car is for Park as it is for all cars. D is
for Drive as it is on all cars...R is for Reverse as it is for all cars.
I'm sure auto manufacturers could have come up with alternative names
for their products but why fix something that's not broken.
Search could have been called "look for"...or "where is it"...or
something like that. Standardization of nomenclature is a good thing.
Anyway jobs ripped off gui from x-rocks and everyone knows it.
So forget it Oldfox as there is no salient point to be made other than
you need a real life.

I thought that was a parody -- until I went directly to the New York Times
site and there it was as well.

ROFLMAO.

As I am NEVER going to own a Mac I am not bothered if Microsoft ripped off
some things from OS 10 (or NOT)
All I am bothered about is that what ever is on vista works.

And to think I almost bought a Mac. Hell, I did buy a Mac! It's called
Vista. So, with Microsoft, I get the best of both worlds for a single low
price. Has Apple thought enough to copy Windows for its Mac customers? I
think not!

But they did allow them to bootcamp Windows on to the MAC, infact given the
two OS'es are apparently the same it'll be an easy transition for Apple
users when Apple stops coding OS'es and they are left with Windows:-)

(For all I know OS X could be the best computing experience ever, I'll
likely never know)

I have never used OSX but I did support a bunch of Macs years ago at an
advertising agency. At that time, Mac didn't multitask or support virtual
memory. They were real dogs. I know OSX is better but it still has the one
thing I could never get accustomed to: the single button mouse. What a
waste of time that is: a 5 function controller (the fingers) wasted on a one
function control.

If you never used Mac OS X why talking about single mouse button? I use mac
os X, vista copied even the screen saver of mac os X, thats the truth.
And for what about the single mouse button, if there is only one is because
the mac os philosphy, not because at cupertino they like to create trubles
to users....

You are all wrong. The new Mac mouse has not one button but 5, and they are
not
exactly buttons but pressure sensitive areas that are invisible to the eye.
And the middle button is not a scroll wheel, but a scroll ball, leaving you
to navigate in 2 dimensions freely.

This control is far superior than any microsoft mouse both in functionality
and design.

You should shut up and start learning.

I dont use macs, but I dont like vista either. Vista is stupid, and an
insult to human intelligence.

NewFox, were you talking to me or the answer was for Dale?

Even My Logitech G7 cordless mouse as got 6 buttons, but what does this
mean? I thought Dale was talking about the fact there is not a left mouse
button AND right mouse button, with all the differences that this fact can
influence in the use of the Operating System.

Ohh, and if you never used mac os x, don't try to teach to OS user.

The new Mac mouse has not one button but 5.

So, does that mean that it is a ripoff from PC mouses since it's always been
one-button? :-)

As for functionality, I would argue that touch panels are superior to
buttons that you can feel/distinguish by touch. I was using several devices
that implement touch-sensitive surfaces instead of buttons (including MP3
players, PDAs and laptops) and found that the only area this idea is
superior (in current implementations) is an outfit. It looks really great
and cool but it's not practical.

For example, I had serious problems trying to operate my Qumo Evo on the go.

There is a right and left button, as I said again and provided the link,
so you can understand the function of the mouse,
the area where the buttons should be is a pressure sensitive area,
that detects your finger, and functions as left and right button
according to where you press.

Don't worry, macs will the be first to introduce the "thought mouse"...
a mind activated, pointing device, for commercial use.

By the way this has been achieved already in experiments for giving the
ability for paralyzed people to control a computer with their minds.

No kidding? I had a Microsoft 5 button mouse in 1999! It took Apple 7
years to reverse engineer it? And even at that someone spilled a trackball
in the parts box.

Dale

chip. I mean dale...

the 5 button mouse was done to help windows users to make the transition
from PCs to Macs easier. The Mac OS had no real other reason to do that.
It is not stealing technology, it is stealing users.

Or I would put it like this, it is saving users from vista.

You have it slightly wrong...

You, olddog, are an insult to the human race.

You are probably a blad alcoholic homosexual...given that you seem to be
stuck in a fantasy world where MACs and Linux are an alternative to PCs.

Once you get professional help, and I hope you do, you may once again be
intelligent enough to make a post that matters. Until then, you'll be just
another idiot that makes no sense...

Honu...

In that case, it will be absolutely useless to you, since you would need to
be in possession of a mind to operate one....
