You listed a lot of glitches Vista has visited upon us, but you left out 2
that irk me most.

1. I find the lack of a history drop-down on the Back button on folders
and
IE ... and can't find anywhere to change it ... to be exasperating;
because I
like to jump back in history. Sure, I can hunt through "History" but the
Back button drop down was handier by far.

Have you tried clicking on the arrow just to the right of the "back/forward"
buttons block in IE? I think you'll find that's EXACTLY what you are
after....

If you or anyone has suggestions how to run WordStar 6.0

Why on EARTH would anyone want to run WORDSTAR in this day and age? It was
the MOST diabolical WP I have EVER seen....

Didn't Moses use Wordstar to write the Ten Commandments - LOL

Nobody would learn WordStar now ... for sure !! But I have clients who have
used it since they first bought a word processing machine (not even a
computer) in the late 70's or early 80's and they're too old to learn Word,
although I keep recommending it. One of them can write emails, so it's not
hopeless. However, except for the fact that it couldn't accept strings
longer than 64K and abruptly crashed when asked to, I used to find WordStar
3.3 set to run as a text editor, not a word processing program, to be an
excellent and versatile editor, right up there with vi .

Lou's comment that WordStar was used to engrave the ten commandments was
right on.

Thanks very much for your suggestions ... sorry to be slow in replying. (
I've been busy accumulating other gripes about Vista, as you can well
imagine! )

The following screnshots show the History dropdown in both Vista
Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer 7:

2. The second omission from your glitch listL Under Vista, my favorite
MS-DOS programs either don't run AT ALL, or don't run in a window big
enough to see them! This is LOW. This might seem important only to
someone who
came up from MS-DOS and just can't give it up. XP didn't have this
glitch. But having to keep old computers around is a nuisance too.

When you DOS program is running, click the icon in upper left cornet of
the window, then click properties. Click the Font tab, and make your
adjustments.

If you or anyone has suggestions how to run WordStar 6.0 (or 3.0) or
Borland Turbo Pascal 7 in MS-DOS under Vista, or work-arounds for other
great old DOS programs, I'd love to hear about it.

For these old programs that in effect outdate even Windows 95, I'd
suggest you download and install Microsoft Virtual PC 2007, and then
either create a virtual DOS computer, or perhaps Windows 95/98 if you do
not have access to MSDOS install disks.

Your suggestion sounds very interesting. Thank you. Sorry to be slow
responding. Could it be the frustration of dealing with Vista and Office
2007 ?? Yes, it could.

Thanks again.
