Sure, some are or NOTHING would work. Which ones do you object to?

Not with any of my machines. All the tests say all ports are closed and
everything works.
No, I said "that compared to Windows a unix based OS is less
vulnerable to compromises that require administrative privileges".

And less vulnerable to not being patched and updated.

You may be refusing inbound connections but if your firewall
doesn't pass ANY port you're not getting much work done.

I don't agree with that at all. In terms of security no system
that isn't maintained can be considered satisfactory.

No wonder you snipped this:

You are saying that Windows is secure in the hands of clueless users who
never update anything? I just cleaned up an XP machine with the
following programs not being updated:

Flash

Java

Adobe Reader

Spybot

Spywareblaster

Windows

Needless to say, it had a root kit, 10 viruses and untold malware
(including a key logger) that superantispyware and spybot found. Her C
drive was completely red after doing an fragmentation analysis with over
20,000 files fragmented. She called me because she didn't understand why
her bank account had been cleared out and that her computer was slow.

Had this very same person been using Ubuntu, she would have been able to
update it when needed due to the Orange icon that appears when updates
are available. I asked her why she didn't update Java and she asked,
"What's that?" She would also not have to be dealing with her bank,
trying to get her money back.

Had that person been using Ubuntu, she still would have answered bogus
e-mails. Have you told her who to report the clearing out of her account?

She uses OE and didn't know about the preview pane. Of course, I never
said she answered bogus emails, now did I?

The cops and her bank are working together to solve the problem.

Every week..

MS just patched one that was in the wild in 2002. Sometimes I get
updates more than once a day. Good to know that Ubuntu is up to snuff,
unlike MS.

Hopefully they (the cops) have you on their suspect list!

Did she tell you to whom she typed her bank info?

Hi,

Is the Vista Home Premium (32 bit) firewall good enough for on-line
banking purposes?

Thanks

Vista's built-in firewall is perfectly adequate for most people.
While it's not quite up to the ease-of-use standards of Kerio or
ZoneAlarm, it has been noticeably improved over WinXP's version.

There are two interfaces for Vistas built-in firewall:

1) A simplified one accessed through the Control Panel that is the only
one most people see. To further supplement this view, Sphinx's Vista
Firewall Control http://sphinx-soft.com/Vista/) is a piece of freeware
that makes the Vista Firewall much more easily manageable to the average
user.

2) And the more advanced "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security
(WF.msc), accessed via the Start Menu's Administrative Tools folder, for
the experienced user who wants more granular control.

Having said that, however, you do need to realize that, for on-line
banking, you'll be relying entirely upon the bank's web sites' security,
and no firewall installed on your computer is going to have any bearing
on it, whatsoever.

No. You have it all wrong. You are too stupid to use Vista. Vista is way
over your head. Better get with Alias and he will gladly help you install
Ubuntu on your system. Then you can be just like him!
