Frankly, I could care less what you and Malke post in the networking
group if it is inaccurate.
I'll tell you again - it works. It is working right here, right now.
It always has. Different workgroup names have never, and are not
intended to, prevent access between machines. They simply make the
network look more organized when you use MS's tools to view the
network. Have you actually tried it or are you relying on someone
else's data?
Oh yeah, I almost forgot. From
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727037.aspx, File and
Printer Sharing in Windows Vista:
"For easier and faster discovery of computers on your home network, it
is highly recommended that all computers on a home network be configured
for the same workgroup name. If computers are in multiple workgroups, it
can take additional time and effort to discover all of the computers on
the network."
Notice that it doesn't say that it won't work, only that *discovery*
will take additional time. And in my experience, with a small number of
machines on the network there is little or no difference in the amount
of time it takes for network discovery to happen. And that has
absolutely no effect on mapped drives or printers, they work
immediately.
