Hi Cd

I can`t see that Virtumonde would cause the type of problem you are
experiencing. There are times when radical situations call for equally
radical measures. Your circumstances sound like no exception. Whatever has
caused it, have you or do you make regular backups of your personal files ie.
Those contained in your My Docs Folder etc? I have to say from my personal
experiences with the type of issue you have described, the available fixes
do not always work successfully (if at all) and out of frustration (after
several days of fiddling), I go back to the beginning. There are those on
here which will `throw up their hands` in shock, horror, probe. But, I have
always believed there are times you MAY have to start with a `clean sheet`.
A bit like starting out with a nice picture and then spoiling it to the point
it cannot ever be restored to its original condition. With the points I have
made in mind. Have you considered a reformat of your hard drive and then
reinstalling the OS? Albeit from an original Windows CD or the Manufacturers
CD that came with your computer. Provided there is not a hardware problem.
You should be up and running again.

Hi,

There is a way to create a Bootable CD with the Recovery Console on it using
the same file from Microsoft that is used to create the 6 Disk Floppy set.

First Download the appropriate file from Microsoft for your Operating
system, in the case of Windows XP Home SP2 that would be this file:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...07-99F7-4A2D-983D-81C2137FF464&displaylang=en

Normally this file would be used to create a 6 disk set of Floppies that can
be used to boot your machine to the Recovery Console. In order to use this
same file to create a Bootable CD that will do the same thing, you will have
to download the following file as well:
http://vlaurie.com/computers2/downloads/recovery_console_cd.zip

This zip file contains all the necessary files and instructions on how to
convert the Floppy Disk Setup file into an ISO image(XPRC.iso ) file that
can then be burned to a CD.

The process is a pretty simple and straight forward one, there is a Readme
file in the zip file with clear and simple instructions on how to perform
the task. There is a file in the zip called RecoveryCD.bat (Credit to Dean
Adams) that does all the brute work for you.

I tested the process on two machines here this morning and it worked quite
well in making a Bootable CD with the Recovery Console on it.

Good luck,

Donald Anadell

Thank you very much.. Donald, Mr. Cat, Tim, Stu for all your help. I will
try the ISO image on CD since I can't find any floppies. I have hope now. I
will let you know how I fare.
