How can I set up a rule to send some mail messages to a mail folder on a different machine on my network?

Do you use Exchange server, and if so, are you talking about a public folder
or another mailbox folder?

Basil,

The "mail folder" on the other machine would have to be in a .pst file and
you would need to have the .pst added to <your> Outlook profile. Also, no
one else can use that same .pst file. Finally, having a .pst file that's on
a network share is not a supported configuration per the following article.

297019 Why Outlook .pst files are unsupported over a LAN or WAN link
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=297019

So, you are probably better off moving the .pst file to your local drive.

Now, if someone else is using the .pst in their profile, you could instead
forward the message to their email address. This would accomplish a similar
end-result.

Hope this helps.

Greg, I thought all Outlook folders had their own address? (Maybe
that's only for Public Folders in an Exhange environment?) Wouldn't
it be possible to just forward the mail messages to the target folder
directly using its network address, rather than sending it to another
"In Box" as email? For some reason I recall doing something like that
in the past.... I'll try it tomorrow at work.

It's possible to move it to a folder in someone else's mailbox as long as
you have that mailbox added to your Outlook profile. I am not aware of a way
to forward an email message to a network folder location using Outlook
Rules.

Thanks

Note - public folders aren't mail-enabled by default in E2000/2003. They
will be if it was an upgrade from 5.5.
