this case. All USB cables were and are shielded. In some extreme cases like
pigtails(4in or less) for USB drives or MP3 players they were 'barely'
shielded and really cheap 6 ft's had scantily shielded cable, like those
that came with some handhelds and other peripherals. however it was never a
lack of shielding it was a quality issue.

The typical round USB1.1 cables were shielded, but I do
recall some OEMs just used the flat ribbon cables for
awhile, which were not.
