Hello,

I have a few USB cables that I have not used in a while. I do not know if
they are USB 1 or USB 2 cables. Is there an easy way to tell? Thanks.

Nope, technically there is no difference with the cable standard wise.

In practice there are some cheap cables that dont do USB2 well.

The only restriction is the computer or watever you are conecting the
cable never changed

but in correction of what was said before the cheep cables will not
slow down the conection the good cables only have more rf
shielding the only reason you would need that is if you have an mp3
player or some other static sensative device.

What I said in different words.

We'll see...

Didnt say they did.

Wrong. And RF shielding has absolutely NOTHING to do with static anyway.

No unless it's marked on it, but a cable sold as USB1 long
ago may work fine at USB2 speeds. In general a better USB2
cable will have lower gauge (thicker) wire, which generally
means a thicker bundle of cable, it just looks thicker in
total too though it could only have a thicker
insulation/abrasion covering instead.

Try the cable, if it works you're done.

The only difference is USB2 requires a shielded cable, it was optional
for USB1.

Haven't read the specs have you. For USB1 cables the shielding was
optional. www.usb.org is where I found the info a year or so ago.

and 95% of the time wrong was right,(despite the delivery) and so it is in
this case. All USB cables were and are shielded. In some extreme cases like
pigtails(4in or less) for USB drives or MP3 players they were 'barely'
shielded and really cheap 6 ft's had scantily shielded cable, like those
that came with some handhelds and other peripherals. however it was never a
lack of shielding it was a quality issue.

Not by my reading.

All USB cables were and are shielded.

In other words "the cable I cut open was shielded".

Fat lot of good that will do you, child.

Guess which pathetic little prat has just made
one hell of a spectacular fool of itself, as always.

Maybe, but little college boy Rod reminds me of something I leave in my
toilet, just flush and forget it.

The purpose of the group is not to give Rod therapy. If he is feeling
inadequate then he will have to work it out himself.
