USB 2.0 PCI Card Problem

Thanks so much for your input. I found cards with both the VIA and the NEC and
I'm going to order the NEC. The price difference is only a few dollars.
Thanks again! One thing though about the Cendyne with the NEC chip, it says
"IBM compatible" but then says "Pentium". I have an AMD processor, so does
this matter? Here's where they have the cards:

That's quite a link ^^^^ !

Somehow IE couldn't navigate that, but it doesn't really matter,
they're all pretty much reference NEC drivers, which do not require a
"pentium", they just did a poor job of describing a technological era,
which in this case would be "PCI rev 2.1 or better", which your system
easily has.

Hard drive, etc.

Do you want front connections?...or rear connections?...or both?

They sell all kinds of different configurations. One that they sell
has 4 connections in the front of the case...2 in the back. The front
4 installs as a tray into the 3 1/2" bay.

Interesting. I didn't know about the front connectors.
I guess I never understood these kinds of eBay purchases. The cost of
living must be different where you are...from my area. These things
sell for $14.95 on average here...and you can see what yer gettin'.

Anyway...good luck.

Thanks. Very true about Ebay :-X

1. Grab the head with a small pair of channel locks and turn it out.

2. Sears sells a set of 3 screw extractors...that I use all the time.
$20 for the set...less when on sale. They work great. You can use
them in a drill, in a power screwdriver, or by hand.

Have a nice week...

Trent

I tried channel locks and everything else but no luck. The problem is the cage
around the drive so there's not much room at all around the screen. But thanks
very much regarding the info about the Sears extractors. That sounds like
exactly what I need.

Thanks again!

Well come to think of it, Cendyne doesn't actually make *anything*,
except perhaps a box design... they buy up surplus runs of goods and
repackage them, it's hard to say who actually made those cards, though
I still don't think it matters, you could download the NEC driver from
just about anywhere.

It should work as well in your system as any other, and better than
other USB2, non-NEC chipset cards.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I'm going to go ahead and order this one. Meanwhile,
I put the card I got off Ebay in my employer's computer and then hooked up our
scanner. I can't believe how much faster USB 2.0 is!

Are you seriously considering wasting another $9 in shipping?...for
such an inexpensive item.

Doesn't yer city have ANY computer stores? lol

This card has ALREADY cost you $15...and you haven't even ORDERED it
yet!! lol Don't make the same mistake again. Walk in somewhere and
purchase it!

Have a nice week...

No, I'm not ordering from Ebay again, LOL. If I get it on line, it's from a
site that offers free shipping. Yes, they have them here, but for about $30 as
opposed to $13 for the same thing.

On a related issue, but a little OT, I keep several A-A and B-B USB cables
to use when my clients have inadvertantly designed and built a run of USB
device or host prototype with the wrong USB connector style. I always
wondered what became of the wierd prototypes that were otherwise functional
;=)

Hi Marc,
You reminded me of a question I wanted to ask. Do I need to have a USB 2.0
specific cable, or can any USB cable work and give me 2.0 with my 2.0 USB card?
thanks

Any USB cable that meets USB 1.1 spec will be fine for a USB 2.0 device.
