with RAM... if i was to get 2x512MB sticks... does it matter if they are a different make?? or do they have to be identicle to worl together... like SLi ??

it is best to get them the same make and speed, but i believe you can run different make RAM together as long as its the same speed

personally Squiz i wouldn't touch them, i'd rather buy a brand new one from overclockers, you can get a 9550SE 256MB version for just over £40 and a 128MB 9800Pro for just over £80

squiz, that card's only £41.07 at overclcockers, here's a link: 9550

Of course when you add postage, in both instances, overclockers only works out about a quid cheaper, but I'd rather trust them than ebay.

G-Man, best to have identical RAM sticks, they work better together, particularly in dual memory mode, if you have that option.

But yes, different brands will sometimes work together, but not recommended.

cool ill keep hunting

found this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=27387&item=5211715739&rd=1

seems cheap. However i notice some are 128mb and others are 256mb . Im guessing the bigger the number the better it is. How much better is a 256 compared to 128 ?

Not always the case with Graphics cards, there are several things to take into account when you’re considering speed.
First and foremost find out the actual clock speed of the graphics card (much like processors) it will be something like 350 MHz or 400 MHz.
Then you have pixel pipelines, the Rad 9800 pro has 8 unlike the other card your looking at i think only has 4; even though the 9800pro only has 128mb RAM it will out perform the 9550SE because its clock engine is quicker.
Before purchasing any Hardware i always copy the name into Google and look for some reviews on it before purchasing, you will find out more about the equipment too :)

Hi still humming and haring over which card !

Which card is better ? 9800 pro or the X700 ? Both seem to be around a similar price

i think the X700 may be slightly better, but to be honest i doubt theres much between them

Just been offered a brand new 9800pro for 80 quid including p&p

This is a good deal right ?

you can get them for £82 P+P from overclockers, so all included its not a bad deal

Found a BFG 6600GT for £99 at pc world so am going to buy that hurrah !

Next problem is there a step by step idiots guide to installing your own graphics card. Im not paying the 30 quid thy want at Pcworld for them to do it for me !

lol thats funny , i just read through that before you gave that link :)

Hit a bit of a hitch though , the card needs a minimum of 350watts and i only have 300w. I guess i need to upgrade the PSU as well ! :(

if you can follow that guide and have the sense to stop if you dont think its going right you'll be fine, a new PSU may be a good idea Tagan are probably the best to get you can get a 420W one for £52.82 from overclockers.co.uk or the 380W might be better as you dont have a system that needs alot of power
