I have a Packard Bell 386 that has Windows 3.1 on it.
I just got a copy of Windows Vista Ultimate and there are
no floppy disks in the package. It only has a round plastic "record".

How do I install this?

Use shears to trim the plastic record so it fits in the floppy drive.

Maybe 5 1/4", so less trimming is necessary.

Just get a mate to print out his or her vista desktop.

Stick this on your screen, when you show people this awesome OS, just tell
them that its very slow on your PC but they will be a awe as to how
fantastic it looks and they will go buy a copy and they will think your so
cool for being into the latest peaces of technology.

Or even better, try to sell them the OS and the PC for £200.

I think you put the record on your gramophone and it tells you
how to write all the code...
and you can compile Vista right on your 386

BTW: The newest Windows operating system you can put on a 386 is Windows95

That's why I put Windows98 on mine

It was not easy to do, I had to make a lot of modifications to the OS !

You guys are not going back far enough......it's the 8" IBM floppy drive : p

So he will need two of the "record"s for this to work...

In that case put the DVD in the microwave for 45 seconds until its bubbly.
Then use a rolling pin (Reynolds's nonstick foil helps) to flatten it to the
8 inch size. Make sure not to touch the underside when you are doing this.

Not so quickly though, we have a couple of them at home. ;-)

...but I haven't seen the device in production of course, that's right. :)

First, you need a barn. You take the plastic 'record' to the barn, open the door to the horse stall and throw the plastic 'record' into the horse stall, then the plastic 'record' will the in stalled..

faces when the deck was loaded...

I worked for over ten years in the Boeing (McDonnell Douglas) computer tape library and the diagnostic equipment the IBM CE's used on the 3480 tape drives ran with 8 inch floppy disks (and still do).
