The original BNR1 was Binary News Reader. BNR2 was then released as Binary News REAPER as it
"reaps" binaries from the UseNet. It is on the front page of the website.

You really should - BNR2 leaves BNR1 for dead when it comes to features. I've been using it for
2 years now. The only reason I haven't looked at BNR3 yet is that my PC doesn't appear to be
powerful enough for it according to feedback (but I'm getting a new one next week - YIPPEE!!!).

I'm using BNR 3 on a 333 MHZ Celeron II, with 320 MB RAM with no
problems. In fact, I see little difference between 2 and 3 . . .
I never used BNR1, but isn't it more optimized for text messages?

No, it's always been geared towards binaries, hence the name. If
anything, it handles text messages better now, but that's not its
purpose.
