I have a Toshiba laptop and had the experience of being happy
for 30 minutes. Then it hit me. I can't do much on here like i
would on XP. Well duh, Its beta so theres not much freedomize
things you can do. I've read some posts and i took it into play.
I haven't have much luck with the info. I can't find it in the
add/remove program and i've tried format and
a window came up saying i couldn't do it becuase "vista" was on it.
I don't have a XP boot cd like some people do . I have a restore
cd(3) and couldn't use it because it says that it couldn't regonize the
current
window version on it. What can i do to take off Vista FOREVER.

You can't use the CD because Vista has screwed with your boot tracks and
MBR. If you had a windows CD, you could use fixboot and fixmbr to repair
it, but you can still use Easy BCD from NeoSmart Technologies to uninstall
Vista, and repair the boot tracks and the MBR.

When I got my current Dell I had the choice of either
a)using their system restore disk with all the crap they have (I had one
when I bought a Packard bell several years ago (Hey it served me well))\
b)Spend an extra $10 and get a bootable XP only DVD. NO system restore

I chose b and do not regret it, also when I start setup for Vista RTM I
coukld use it as my quqalifying disc for the upgrade price.

Saving $100 in the process. But be sure to check the upgrade matrix when it
comes out in a few months.

Little things show up in the upgrade matirix, like Windows 2000 not being
upgradable to XP Home, just XP Pro. Little gotchas.

I have already looked at the DVD. It should do the trick.

Besides when I did a 98 CLEAN install on the Packard Bell,THEIR stystem
restore CD was enough to qualify.

You were fortunate. They used a largely unchanged Windows cd. About all
they changed was the OOBE. However, if they had used a ghost image like a
lot do now it would not have worked.

I used to have a Packard Bell 440. The mobo finally died, alas.
