same problem here
Windows update was running fine until I got SP3 installed
is there a bug on SP3?

PS My windows is a genuine one

Same problem as what?

In the meantime, try this:

From a command prompt, stop the Automatic Updates service, register
wups2.dll, restart the AU Service.

Start>Run>cmd [enter]
net stop wuauserv [enter]
regsvr32 %windir%\system32\wups2.dll [enter]
(close out of cmd)

Also see:

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you perform a new Windows XP
installation or you repair a Windows XP installation (applies to Service
Packs also):

If you need more help, provide the missing details - including what you've
already tried. The best place to get help with Windows Update questions is
in its newsgroup, microsoft.public.windowsupdate.
