The OP made a mistake in asking for payware.

No, the OP did _not_ make a mistake, what they wanted was a solution,
that was all.

Saying that "I would like a freeware solution, but failing that any
shareware suggestions would be welcome" is only an error in the eyes of
those terminally thicker than the proverbial three planks.

Cheers,
Gary B-)

F*ck your planks.
This is a freeware group and he had the benefit of making a mistake, unlike
I would give you.
Oh, I'm just _so_ scared by a pathetic little twit who hasn't the
gumption to post under it's real name.

Go play in the traffic on the freeway, and do yourself and the universe
a favour.

Cheers,
Gary B-)

Thanks.... I didn't mean to set you up for criticism. I just wanted to
communicate a flexible attitude and not cut out possible solutions. I'll
give it to him to look at and let him decide for himself. Thanks to the
tips I've gleaned, I have pulled together a number of choices that may
solve his problem.

Don't worry to much, as I said in another message if you download the program
you can use it for as long as you want, if you can put up with the nags, and
there aren't to many of those. I know lots of people use it and have never paid
for it :)

I hope you won't worry about asking for help again, we do have some people in
this group that seem to be less flexible than others, but I think you'll agree
much people who responded, didn't feel as either of us really did anything
wrong.

Life goes on -

Have fun

Bye Mark

You really shouldn't ask for a drink at an AA meeting.
Try to remember that Mother Theresa does not want to help you obtain an

and. . .

It's rude to ask for shareware in a Freeware group.

IMO proper ettiquette is of the utmost importance. ;)

I'll take that under consideration.
Thank you.

You just don't get it do you ? The request was for a SOLUTION,
preferrably freeware. My hope is that the OP posts back in the future
once he (or his friend) finally settles on a particular solution, and
lets us all know how well your freeware solution stacked up.

.... or appoint yourself netcop for so minor a transgression in an
unmoderated NG.

Whilst I can understand your concern re the ACF be totally freeware it should
be remembered that the OP asked for the following
"Can anyone recommend a time calculator? Best would be input of time and
calculation of time difference. Freeware would be great but low cost
shareware ok too."
Only fair that Marks response should be accepted without criticism.

< snip >

Rubbish. If some idiot asks for shareware in a freeware newsgroup that
doesn't mean some other idiot should reply with a shareware solution.

Susan's comment was polite, and appropriate.

It is very simple to avoid being flamed for mentioning shareware.
Don't. Rather simple really. :-)

Scott would prefer freeware, but he is interested in a solution and
trying to be flexible. Nothing wrong with that. You may choose not
to respond or respond only with freeware. Recommending an inexpensive
apparently minimal nag infinite trial is within that reasonable
request.

While humorous, I find your analogies deficient.

I find her analogies sufficient and to the spirit of a *freeware* newsgroup.
You just *don't* seem to get it BillR.

I disagree.

That's a misstatement of the facts. It may be nagware with an infinite
trial. That was *not* mentioned in the response. Those claims were made
later as an alibi for the [OT] post.

I've written one, it cost $15, its called TimeCalculator funnily enough,
please have a look at http://www.mtzone.co.uk/tc.html , I know a number
of users use it for the same sort of thing you're after.

IMO that is *SPAM*.

I think my anologies are to the point. This is alt.comp.freeware.

IMO asking for shareware is [OT].
IMO *flogging* shareware is [OT].

Many shades of gray exist but black is *not* white.

EOT for me.

Trying to sell him some commercial software is not within reason in
a.c.f.

It seems that the NETCOPS here want to stop pollution of the freeware
newsgroup with prolific quantities of Off-Topic posts.

It seems to me that the opposite is in fact true.

This post for a time calculator (freeware preferably, but an actual
solution preferred) has resulted in 5 posts with recommendations of an
possible solution ........... and 25 "spammy" posts started by the "OT-
NETCOPS" and followed up by those that have an opinion one way or the
other.

It seems irrational to me.

(Your figures for actual number of posts may well vary from mine because
a few of the idiots here are on my killfile and their posts are not
included in the totals I see.)

Please .sig better films in the future.

I musta hit a raw nerve here ..... not one of the "Off-Topic, NetCops"
has found the words to reply to this in 3 days.
