Anyone try it yet? How does it compare to OE? I tried 0.8 a while ago but
every downloaded thread would open automatically when I went to an ng and it
got really annoying.

In my opinion there are far better readers than TB either for Windows or
Linux. As a mail client though, TB is great.

It doesn't do it on the latest version.

If you hit the \ key it will unexpand all groups.

I still can't mark a thread so that if anything is posted to that thread it
shows up in red like I do in OE. In OE you can mark the thread as watched
and if anything new is posted to it the thread will show in bold red, it
will also show the entire newsgroup in red which is handy.

Use it as main newsreader--have no problems with it. Also use OE for an
online classroom reader, but prefer TB, much easier to set up, tweak for
your own preferences.

There is a possibility for this: menu item Message/Watch thread. Apart
from this: if a tread is read and somthing new is posted it will bocome
underlined.

As for usability: I think TB has everything for newsgroups like ACF (no
binaries). Tried several newsreaders, but couldn't get used to them.

The only (Big) drawback I discoverd is the lack of multipart file
support (eg downloading big binaries from newsgroups)

If they will fix this, I'd go for Thunderbird as a newsreader.

Also, it lacks possibility of making groups of newsgroups.

I've been using Thunderbird as the newsreader for the few groups I
follow daily.
I like the convenience of an email client, (and that side seems to be
working...),
that also does Usenet. otherwise Xnews or maybe XanaNews.

It's usable but: I can't make filters work in newsgroups.
(Filters are shaky in Email too).
Occasionally, like yesterday when I upgraded to 1.0,
I have to unsubscribe then resubscribe to get newsgroups working correctly.
Buttons in the GUI may or may not work. And other annoyances.

Sometimes it's smooth as glass, sometimes it gets very clumsy.
